Chapter 124
Love at the Wrong Table
Chapter 124
However, she didnât want her mother to worry about Emersonâs safety
either.
âWeâre family here, Roselynn. You wouldnât sit by and do nothing, would
you?â Jamison added with a smug grin.
He was determined to take full advantage of Roselynnâs dilemma.
âRoselynn does not have eighty thousand, so you can forget about asking
her for money! We still have three days, so letâs try to come up with an
alternative solution that doesnât involve money. Maybe we can make a
police report or something!â Emmanuel suggested.
âYouâ¦â
Hermann had assumed that his plan would work for sure, but Emmanuel
foiled it completely.
âIf you want Uncle Emerson to make it home safely, then tell us everything
that you know, Granddad. Thereâs no guarantee that theyâll let him go even
if we pay them the money. In fact, they might even hold on to him and
demand more money!â
Emmanuel made such a good point that Hermann couldnât argue with
him at all.
âFine! Iâll tell you everything, but I will never forgive you all if he ends up
dying because we donât pay them!â Hermann threatened before giving
them a brief summary of the situation.
Alessandra had wanted to have them stay for lunch, but Hermann refused
and stormed out of there with the others.
âWhat should we do, Manny?â Alessandra asked helplessly.
I canât force Roselynn to pay up, so selling this house might just be the only
optionâ¦
Emmanuel knew what she was thinking, so he quickly reassured her, âIâll
take care of this, so you donât have to do anything on your end. We donât
owe Uncle Emerson anything, so we are not responsible for the
consequences of his own actions. He has only himself to blame for what
happens to him.â
Roselynn felt the same way about the situation. âThatâs right! Uncle
Emerson is fortyâfour years old, Mom! Itâs not like heâs an underage teen
who doesnât know what heâs doing! We didnât put him in that situation! He
did it to himself!â

Of course, Alessandra understood all of that very well. She was simply too
softâhearted to sit by and do nothing.
It was almost noon at the time. Mackenzie had her driver take her to a
restaurant for lunch.
Not only did she summon Beatrix to join her for lunch, but she also had Lexi
come over.
âItâs a Saturday, Mackenzie. Shouldnât you be staying home with Manuel
instead? Why would you ask us out for lunch?â Beatrix protested.
She had been very busy lately after taking over some projects at work, so
Saturday was her only chance to sleep in a little.
Itâs only eleven in the morning! I canât believe Mackenzie would drag me
out of bed just to have lunch with her!
âThat man went home early in the morning. Whatâs wrong with me asking
you out for lunch? Why are you complaining so much?â Mackenzie
snapped at her coldly.
Beatrix and Lexi shot each other glances and chuckled in amusement.
âOh⦠So, you only asked us out because Manuel is busy, huh?â Beatrix
teased her.
Mackenzie shot Beatrix an icyâcold glare, prompting the latter to shut up
instantly.
Unlike Emmanuel, she did not have the freedom to speak her mind without
consequences.
âIf you donât want to eat lunch with me, then get back to work. Youâve got
your hands full at the moment, right? I donât mind giving you more work if
youâd like!â
âPlease donât! It is an honor for me to have lunch with you, Mackenzie!â
Beatrix said while sticking her tongue out.
Honestly, how does Manuel even put up with Mackenzie? Theyâve been
living together for about two weeks now, right? I wouldâve moved out long
ago if I were him!
