Chapter 179
Love at the Wrong Table
Chapter 179
Mackenzie glanced at the time and let out a sigh.
She had no choice but to call Wally to pick her up at the residential area.
Wally was surprised to receive the call. He had been Mackenzieâs driver for so
many years, but she had never once made him work at such a late hour.
It finally dawned on him that she wanted to pick her husband up when he
drove Mackenzie to Ryderâs house and watched as she entered the place.
âYou can head back now, Wally.â
âYes, Ms. Quillen.â
Wally quickly drove away, and at the same time, he couldnât help but exclaim
in astonishment at how much Mackenzie had changed in the past month.
I have to admit, marriage is really something!
Mackenzie could vaguely smell the metallic smell of blood the moment she
walked into Ryderâs house. She didnât ask what had happened after seeing
the manâs injury and could already guess that he must be having troubles
with Abellyn.
I knew Abellyn wasnât a good person. Though, itâs still surprising that that
woman would dare to stab her husband.
âWhy are you here, Mackenzie?â
Emmanuel instantly got to his feet when he saw Mackenzie. He had been
drinking with Ryder, so he stumbled his way to her and fell into her arms.
âUgh! You reek of alcohol!â
Even though Mackenzie sounded disgusted, she didnât try to push the man
away. After all, it would only make it seem like she had no respect for him.
Thus, she had no choice but to quietly endure it.
âIâm sorry. Ryder was in a bad mood today, so Iâm drinking with him to help
him ease the tension.â
IN
Emmanuel was trying to get permission from her.
âNo, no! Iâm fine now. Manny, hurry up and go home with your wife.â
Ryder quickly stood up as well. He was afraid that he would affect his cousinâs
relationship with his wife and didnât want to become a problem for them.
Mackenzie had no idea what had happened to Ryder before she came and
was originally planning to bring Emmanuel home.
However, after seeing Ryderâs circumstances, she thought it was better for
Emmanuel to stay, even if it was just for Tommyâs sake. She was worried
Ryder wouldnât be able to handle Abellyn if she came home.
âEnjoy your drinks. Iâll head home first.â
With that said, she turned to leave.
âMackenzie!â
Emmanuel immediately grabbed her wrist and asked anxiously, âAre you
mad?â
Mackenzie was amused by his reaction. I didnât know he was so afraid of
seeing me mad.
Although she looked cold on the outside, she was not someone so
narrowâminded. Mackenzie turned around and said, âWhat? Am I someone
who has such a bad temper?â
âNo, Ms. Quillen-â
Emmanuel had blurted it out in the heat of the moment. He only realized that
she hadnât been mad earlier when he saw her actual angry face right then.
Fortunately, he reacted quickly and began complimenting her, âYouâre the
most understanding wife. I must be blessed to have been able to get
married to you.â
âHmph! Youâre only realizing that now?â Mackenzie accepted his
compliments. Then, turning around, she continued coldly, âDonât drink too
much, and take good care of Tommy.â
âOkay!â
Only then did Emmanuel finally confirm that Mackenzie wasnât angry at all.
Ryder burst into tears when she finally left, feeling envious and jealous of his
cousin.
âWe both got married, but how is it that you married an angel while I married
a monster? Youâre really something, Manny!â
Emmanuel had no idea how to respond when he heard that.
Me? Itâs all because of a blitz marriage! I was even worried that Iâd gotten
married to a devil at first. I never expected Mackenzie to be so perfect! I can
only say that Iâm just extremely lucky.
The next morning, Mackenzie told Lexi to cancel her first appointment, then
she personally drove her Maserati to pick her husband up.
Even though it was early in the morning, Abellyn still arrived earlier than she
did. She arrived home in a hurry with her parents, her sister, and her cousins
behind her.
