out of the car and hurried after her.

by a landscaped stream, sitting down on the grass, stewing with frustration.

At his voice, Ashton froze, jolted as if shocked. She turned, glaring at

Emmanuel with wide eyes. “You… what did you just call me?”

Emmanuel walked over with a smile and repeated, “I called you my little

sister. Your brother is my sister’s husband, so that makes us family, right? I’m

older, so calling you my little sister seems fitting.”

“You-” Ashton struggled to process her feelings. She’d once had a crush on

him, after all. Knowing it was hopeless, she’d eventually forced herself to

move on.

In the past, hearing Emmanuel call her “little sister” would’ve made her heart

race. Now, though, she was more taken aback, but his explanation helped he

accept it more easily. After all, it was the truth.
