“It’s nothing major.”

Emmanuel responded casually, “I just dealt with Magnus. Now, the Zelinsky family is teaming up with the Lannister and Tanner families to come after me. Let them try, though.”

“That’s what you call ‘nothing major?“”

Mackenzie immediately grew anxious. “The Big Four wields immense power. Now, three–quarters of them are after you. They must be desperate to eliminate you. Your situation in Zovince is extremely dangerous!”

“Don’t worry.”

Emmanuel waved her concerns off. “I hold the rank of a 5–Star Honored Battle General. If they want to use legal means against me, they’ll need authorization from the head of state. If they try to take me out covertly, who among them is my match?”

While his words were confident, Mackenzie glared at him through the screen. “I know you’re impressive! But as your wife, not some starry–eyed fangirl, I hope you’ll stay cautious. Don’t let them catch you off guard. If anything happens to you, what will become of me and our child?”

“That’s actually a solid plan.”

Emmanuel agreed instantly. He had no objections to the idea. After all, the Wolf Warrior Unit had plenty of heavy weaponry, and this approach meant his wife wouldn’t have to be on the frontlines. It also spared their unit brothers from risking their lives. It seemed flawless.

However, his extensive combat experience urged caution. He didn’t agree immediately, knowing that potential risks had to be addressed.

Suddenly, Mackenzie’s hotel room door flew open. A startled voice called out, “Mackenzie! I heard you’re planning to bomb the Serpent King’s base. You absolutely must not do that!”

Mackenzie frowned slightly, irritated at the intrusion during her conversation with Emmanuel.

Lexi quickly rushed in, panic in her voice as she said, “Ms. Quillen, I’m so sorry! Libby got too emotional, and I couldn’t stop her from barging in. I’ll take her outright away!”

“No!”

Libby pushed Lexi aside and rushed toward Mackenzie

Startled, Mackenzie instinctively stood. But before she ould react further, Libby dropped to her knees, tears streaming as she begged, “Please don’t do it! My sister is still in the Serpent King’s base! There are other women and innocent people there too!”

“What?”

Both Mackenzie and Emmanuel, who was listening on the other end, were visibly shocked.

“There are civilians living near the Five Poison Sect’s base?” Mackenzie asked, her voice tinged with disbelief.

“Yes!”

Libby nodded fervently. “The Five Poison Sect enslaves villagers to build massive structures like the Serpent Altar and the Serpent Palace. They captured many civilians to force them into labor, including farming to provide food for them long–term and so on

She hesitated but pressed on. “Not only that, but every year the Serpent King captures hundreds of women. After the sacrifices, some are said to be eaten by him, while others are kept in his harem. Those he doesn’t like are given to his subordinates or the residents, so they can breed and continue to serve as laborers!”

“The Serpent King’s base has existed for nearly a century. It’s evolved into a settlement. The villagers don’t commit crimes or kill. They’re just innocent people caught in this nightmare!”

Mackenzie and Lexi exchanged shocked glances. They hadn’t realized such horrors existed in the shadows of this world.

Based on how thorough Libby’s account was, it didn’t seem like she was making it up.

“Alright, step outside for now,” Mackenzie said, refraining from making any promises. She gestured for Lexi to escort Libby out of the room.

“Please, Mackenzie! Don’t harm the innocent! My sister is still in there!”

Libby continued pleading desperately.

Lexi struggled to pull her out, but before long, Rhett appeared. Without hesitation, he grabbed Libby by the arm and dragged her out.

Once in the hallway, Rhett handed her over to Quintus, who had arrived after hearing the commotion. “Quintus, keep an eye on her. Don’t let her disturb Her Holiness or the Commander’s conversation again.”

“Got it!” Quintus replied.

Without missing a beat, he raised his hand, ready to deal with Libby’s defiance.

Fortunately, Claudette rushed over just in time to intervene.

If Quintus had struck Libby, it wouldn’t just harm her physically. It would leave an emotional scar that wouldn’t heal casily.

“Claudette, please! You have to stop Mackenzie! If they bomb the Serpent King’s base, my sister will be caught in the destruction!” Libby cried, clutching Claudette’s arm as though it were her last lifeline.

She was about to kneel and plead again, but Claudette quickly steadied her. “I understand. But you need to trust Mackenzie and Emmanuel. They’re both kind–people who would never harm the innocent.”

Claudette’s reassurance wasn’t baseless. She truly understood the compassionate nature of the couple.

Meanwhile, inside the room, Mackenzie and Emmanuel had reached the same conclusion: indiscriminate bombing was not an option.

For Emmanuel, the decision was especially painful. As a soldier of Chanaea, he was bound by the principle of protecting innocent lives. If bombing were no longer an option, Mackenzie would have to lead a team straight into the heart of the Five Poison Sect. It was a highly dangerous mission.

“Emmanuel, I know you’re worried about me, but this is my duty. I have to lead the team,” she said firmly.

She knew how hard this decision was for him. On top of everything, he was entangled with the three major families in Zovince and had to protect Ethan Hale. The weight on his shoulders was already overwhelming, so to lighten his burden, Mackenzie made the decision for him.

“I promise you, I won’t be on the front lines. Besides, Rhett will be there to protect me. If I face danger, I’ll retreat immediately if I can’t handle it,” she explained.

Her reasoning was sound, and Emmanuel trusted Rhett’s capabilities. Even so, his concern lingered.

But at this point, he could only relent. “Fine, Mackenzie. But I’ll still have large–scale weapons delivered to your location. Use them if absolutely necessary.”

“Of course. I’ll be careful,” Mackenzie replied with a nod.

“And with Hattie and Magnus, they’ll help me make the right calls,” she added.

With their plan settled, Mackenzie issued her orders that night.

The Wolf Warrior Unit was to depart the small town the next morning and venture deep into the Serpent King’s territory.

However, early the next morning, Libby showed up at Mackenzie’s door, tearfully pleading again.

“Mackenzie, please don’t send me away! I want to go with you to the Serpent Altar and save my sister!”

Before Mackenzie could respond, Quintus appeared from behind her.
