“What?” Claudette looked puzzled, not understanding why Hattie brought that up. She didn’t need Magnus to take care of her.

Suddenly, a strange signal shot into the sky while they were chatting lightly, exploding into peculiar fireworks.

Magnus glanced up, his rare frown appearing. We just secured the Serpent King’s surrender, deciding the war’s course. Can there really be an unforeseen twist now?

Their cheers were so loud that even Quintus and the others outside the fortress walls could hear them.

Quintus shouted, “Did Magnus fail? Looks like they’re not surrendering after all!”

Anna was equally perplexed. The strategist is usually flawless–did he fail this time?

“Quintus! I’ve got an emergency task for you!” Quintus earpiece buzzed with Magnus‘ urgent command.

“Launch an all–out attack immediately and head straight for the Serpent Altar and rescue Solana!”

“So you did fail!” Quintus mocked Magnus with glee, but his feet didn’t stop moving. He ordered the attack and led the charge himself.

“Even the wise Magnus can miscalculate! Didn’t you lose to Emmanuel back then because you missed some things too?”

Magnus merely smiled indifferently at Quintus‘ taunts.

Victory and defeat were common in warfare. Hence, having formidable opponents only made the game more interesting.

Who can be clever enough to predict my siege tactics and send reinforcements at a critical moment?

Another Ebon Grand Protector rushed inside the Serpent Altar, excitedly announcing, “Report! Serpent King, the sect master is here with reinforcements! We’ve received their signal!”

The recently surrendered Serpent King chuckled coldly. “Who would’ve thought? The sect master actually returned at such a time.”

Listening to instructions in her earpiece, Solana gritted her teeth and said, “Serpent King, what’s that supposed to mean? Are you planning to go back on your word?”

Solana kept working to sway him.

What she didn’t know was that Magnus was merely stalling for time as he realized that convincing the Serpent King was no longer possible.

He quietly instructed Solana to seize any opportunity to escape.

Sure enough, the Serpent King laughed coldly and said. “A child will never despise his mother, no matter how ugly she is! I was born in the Five Poison Sect.

“Whether or not I become the sect master depends on my ability. However, I’ll forever be a stray dog, merely a hound for the Wolf Warrior if I surrender to outsiders!”

“So, you’d rather die than be a dog?” Solana sneered in return.

“Who dies remains to be seen! However, you die with me if I die!”

The Serpent King suddenly attacked.

Fortunately, Solana was prepared. Hence, she unleashed flames before he could strike.

“Then I’ll burn you to ashes first! Die!”

Two fiery dragons roared toward the giant serpent.

Yet, Solana knew she was no match for the Serpent King. After releasing the flames, she seized the moment to flee.

“How dare you try to escape? Dream on!” The Ebon Grand Protector quickly moved to block her path. Solana knew that if she were caught, death was certain.

At this life–or–death moment, she ignited her entire body in flames and charged headlong toward the exit!
