Chapter 2169 The Ambition

Sage, a seasoned warrior accustomed to the battlefield, had a sharp sense of judgment when it came to assessing situations.

Their opponents were the Eight Supremes, who specialized in long–range attacks, with additional ambushers lying in wait nearby.

Charging head–on would be futile; their only option was to retreat, regroup, and seek a better opportunity.

Florus Admon once again lifted Caden, whom he had just put down, and laughed smugly.

Meanwhile, in the stone chamber, Mackenzie had waited aif entire day and night for Anna’s return, but she hadn’t come back.

Though a little anxious, she remained calm, her composed nature showing no signs of impatience.

“Mackenzie, are you feeling restless yet?”

Isabella and Lady Rosa re–entered the stone chamber.

During the past day, they hadn’t stayed in the chamber with Mackenzie but had gone elsewhere.

Rhett cast a deep, angry gaze at the two women.

He had considered forcibly breaking into the stone chamber, but Mackenzie stopped him.

The truce depended on ensuring her child’s safety. Even if Mackenzie managed to leave, she would still have to negotiate with the enemy.

Rhett understood as well–if Isabella truly intended to kill Mackenzie, he might not be able to stop her.

“I’m not in a hurry.”

Mackenzie’s expression remained indifferent as she glanced at Isabella. “It’s you who should be worried. Whether my child encounters danger or gets rescued, the Five Poison Sect won’t survive for long.

“Ms. Quillen, you’re truly a heroine.” Isabella smiled and said, “But, given that your subordinate has been допе for an entire day and night, you should know by now that your child is under our control.”

“Or perhaps you’ve intentionally refused to let her enter.” Mackenzie retorted disdainfully.

“Mackenzie, is there any need for us to do that? My master isn’t that kind of person,” Lady Rosa said.

Lady Rosa, who feared nothing, flinched under Mackenzie’s piercing gaze.

Lady Rosa grew agitated but didn’t get a chance to speak before Mackenzie continued furiously, “All those stories you told me and Emmanuel were fabricated, weren’t they? You claimed to have a tragic past, but in truth, you’re Maestro Moretti’s disciple. You lied to gain sympathy, and you’re willing to say or do anything shameless.”

Lady Rosa looked pitiful, pouting without refuting

She was indeed full of lies, but she only sought Emmanuel’s favor. Ever since her brother became Emmanuel’s slave, she had never harmed him.

Mackenzie ignored this and earnestly asked, “Maestro Moretti, I can see that you’re not utterly evil. You’ve even raised funds for disaster relief in West End. I don‘ understand why you’ve become my enemy.”

Isabella smiled. “The adult world is complex, unlike a child’s, where things are simply good think you’re a bad person either. We’re just on opposite sides of belief.”

“Of course, I support Mason. Catherine comes second, but Ethan? Never, Isabella admitted openly. “As for why. I cannot disclose that.”

Mackenzie shook her head with a smile. “It seems our beliefs and values are completely at odds.”

“Indeed.” Isabella agreed. “However, that doesn’t stop me from admiring you. As long as you withdraw your troops, I won’t let anyone harm you.”

“Should I thank you for that?” Mackenzie replied coldly. “Maestro Moretti, if you care about the people of Chanaea, you should support Ethan, not the Holy Trinity and the wolfish ambition of Teddy.”

Isabella detected her anger but remained composed. “Ms. Quillen, do you know how vast Chanaea’s territory once was? Do you know how much land we’ve yet to reclaim?”

Mackenzie faltered slightly.

Isabella continued, “This world is one of the strong devouring the weak. That will never change. If you’re just an ordinary person, guarding your home is enough. However, as a national figure, if you’re content with the status quo and fail to reclaim lost lands or strengthen the country, that’s a sin–the sin of inaction..

“Artemis and Ethan are exactly such examples. What they lack is the wolfish ambition of my brother and the Holy Trinity.”

Her words struck a chord in Mackenzie’s heart, causing a small but significant shift in her convictions.

She could sense a hint of truth in Isabella’s words, regardless of whether they were right or wrong. From her perspective, they were absolutely correct.

“The ideals of the Holy Trinity are grand and will undoubtedly lead to rivers of blood, but they benefit Chanaea’s future generations,” Isabella said, attempting to sway Mackenzie.

Mackenzie shook her head firmly.

Isabella pressed further,, “Ms. Quillen, if you believe in peace, why refuse to withdraw your troops and insist on bloodshed?”

Biting her lip, Mackenzie responded, “Because the Five Poison Sect harms the world and commits heinous

crimes.

Isabella, expecting this answer, seized the opportunity to retort, “As for those forces and nations that once invaded Chanaca, pillaging and murdering–weren’t they evil? Didn’t they deserve destruction? The Holy Trinity’s goal to eradicate them aligns perfectly with your logic, doesn’t it?”
