Once he was gone, Gautier pulled out a fake golden jad phoenix and placed it in the hands of the dying Master Theron. A smug grin spread across his face before he quickly disappeared into the night with Aora.

Mere moments later, the friars of the Chapel of Oros stormed into the scene.

“Master Theron!”

“Assassins! They’ve killed Master Theron!”

Panic spread like wildfire, and soon, the entire chapel was in an uproar.

Rumors quickly took shape–everyone was convinced that Emmanuel was behind the attack. The reason? A golden jade phoenix was found at the scene, an item many recognized as the one Emmanuel had once gifted Mackenzie.

Word traveled fast. It wasn’t long before the news reached the mountaintop, where the Zen Master was deep in preparation for the next day’s prayer ceremony and his much–anticipated duel with Yorick.

The moment he heard what had happened, he abandoned all thoughts of rest and rushed to see Master Theron’s lifeless body. One look was all it took–this had been a powerful palm strike. The killer knew exactly what they were doing.

“This technique… It’s the Northern Region Dragon–Breaking Palm!”

“It has to be Emmanuel! Look–Master Theron was clutching his belongings when he died!”

“That man is a ruthless killer! He’s slaughtered so many of our people already!”

“Zen Master, you must deliver justice! When Emmanuel arrives tomorrow, he must not leave alive!”

The friars shouted in rage, demanding vengeance.

However, the Zen Master remained silent.

“Shouldn’t you be in Shoiya, protecting His Royal Majesty?” Yorick asked, his voice calm

yet firm.

The masked woman, Coralie Jasmin, stepped forward and replied, “His Royal Majesty is well–guarded. He doesn’t need me right now. I came to ensure your victory over Chanaea’s martial arts world tomorrow.”

Yorick didn’t even flinch. “I don’t need anyone’s help.”

He closed his eyes again. “What happens tomorrow has nothing to do with Shoiya.”

Coralie’s tone sharpened. “Perhaps, but Shoiya needs you to win.”

There was an unmistakable weight in her voice now.

She continued, “His Royal Majesty has given you a task. Tomorrow, you are to kill the President of Chanaea.”

Yorick remained motionless. “I know what needs to be done. I take orders from no one.”

“That’s not the answer I was expecting.” Without warning, Coralie’s expression turned cold. Her golden sword sliced through the air like a bolt of lightning in a flash, stopping just inches from Yorick’s throat.

Yorick’s eyes snapped open. A flicker of anger crossed his face.

“Lord Yorick, do not forget it was Shoiya’s forces that saved your life when Chanaea’s warriors nearly killed you. Besides, His Royal Majesty didn’t just offer you protection–he gave you wealth and status, calling you his most trusted ally. Now it’s time for you to return the favor,” Coralie warned, her voice sharp.

Though Coralie was Shoiya’s strongest female warrior, and her speed rivaled lightning itself, he wasn’t sure if her golden sword could break through his Golden Bell.

“You may not realize it yet, but Shoiya needs to send a message to the Eagle Nation,” she continued, pressing her advantage.

“Disrupting Chanaea is part of the plan. Do not underestimate what’s at stake. You’ve already turned your back on Chanaea. If you also defy Shoiya, you’ll be nothing but a stray dog with nowhere to go.”

“Enough!” Yorick’s patience finally snapped. With a wave of his right hand, a surge of raw energy erupted from his body.

Coralie barely had time to react. She twisted away, vanishing into the shadows and landing ten steps back.

Though shaken, she remained unharmed.

She let out a short scoff. “Hmph. I’ve delivered His Royal Majesty’s orders. Whether you follow them.or not… that’s on you.”

With that, she disappeared into the night.

Yorick shut his eyes once more.

Her presence didn’t shake him.

He already knew–whether he followed the order or not, Ethan wouldn’t make it out alive.

Too many people wanted him dead.

At sunrise, inside Congress, Ethan was still awake, finishing last–minute paperwork.

Despite the New Year’s Eve celebrations, he worked late into the night. After only a few hours of sleep, he stepped outside with his assistant.

As he approached them, Ethan said, “Emmanuel, I heard what happened. The Zovince mayor has issued a warrant for your arrest. It’s better if you don’t follow me to Divine Mountain.”

Emmanuel understood Ethan’s reasoning.

First, Ethan wanted to keep him safe.

Second, given his status as president, bringing a wanted man to such a public event would only invite trouble.

Still, Emmanuel didn’t waver. “I’ve already made up my mind. I will walk with you until you are officially made President. Not only that, but my wife will also stand by my side.”

Ethan turned to Mackenzie.

The two exchanged a knowing smile and nodded in silent agreement.

“Emmanuel, I appreciate it,” Ethan replied, shaking his hand firmly.

To him, Emmanuel wasn’t an ally.

Mackenzie unexpectedly spoke up, “Since Mr. Hale has assured his safety, Emmanuel and I won’t be joining you on your journey to Divine Mountain.”

Emmanuel was surprised, but he respected her decision. He thought, Well, we can discuss this later.
