Chapter 234
Love at the Wrong Table
Chapter 234
âDo your best today, my good brotherâinâlaw!â
Beatrix knew what Claudette was plotting, of course. She hastily walked over
to them and snatched Emmanuelâs attention away.
When everyone heard her referring to Emmanuel as her brotherâinâlaw, they
were shocked.
Elizabeth was surprised, too, as she said, âHeâs your brotherâinâlaw, Beatrix?â
Emmanuel hastily explained, âNo, itâs a misunderstanding. Weâre bros, and she
thinks itâs funny to call me her brotherâinâlaw. Iâm not married to her sister!â
Beatrix smiled as she remained silent. Mackenzie is rightâthis guy is a fool! If
he was not my brotherâinâlaw, I wouldnât have called him as such now, would
I? Heâs so dumb, but I have to say, heâs fun to play with as well.
When Claudette saw that scene, she knew Emmanuel wouldnât be able to
help her out anymore.
The boys standing before her were sons of wealthy families in Yeringham,
and she had a faint impression of them.
The tall and broad one was named Isaac Lane. His brother used to be
Claudetteâs classmate.
Isaac had met Claudette before and had fallen in love with this gentle and
reserved beauty at first sight.
He even pursued her before, but she rejected him in a roundabout way by
joking and saying that he was still a brat.
Now that he was 20 years old, he was a brat no more. When he saw the
woman wearing such bold clothing today, he swore that he would win the
heart of the idol in his youth.
Claudette knew the boy beside Isaac as well. His name was Jonathan
Verkade, and they had met at the banquet before.
Initially, he was aiming for Beatrix, but the latter always rejected him. Now
that he saw Claudette exuding a more feminine aura while wearing slightly
revealing clothes, he felt that Claudette should be easier to get than Beatrix.
Hence, he decided to try his luck.
Not only that, Jonathan always had this narcissistic view that he looked good,
and he even secretly wondered if Claudette would want to do it with him.
At the thought of sharing a bed with this woman who had a back as white as
snow, he couldnât help but feel a little excited.
Sadly, the gap between expectation and reality was always suffocatingly
huge.
âSorry, but Iâm not interested in teaming up with you guys.â
Claudetteâs honest words instantly caused Jonathan to feel awkward.
The looks and laughter coming from all sides made him want to disappear
from the face of the earth.
Oh, well. Life is always fair. Iâm sure this is a signal from the gods that sheâs not
the one for me. With that thought in mind, Jonathan turned around and
invited Beatrix instead.
âSorry, but Iâm teaming up with my brotherâinâlaw. We already made a
promise,â Beatrix declined politely, then gripped Emmanuelâs arm tightly.
Emmanuel was exasperated. We are in public right now. How can she
behave so intimately around me?! He couldnât help but feel as if he truly were
her brotherâin-law.
The corners of Jonathanâs lips twitched. He realized that his life motto was
wrong. Real life would make one suffer for a while first and continue to make
them suffer until they finally got used to it.
Before Jonathan could say anything, Elizabeth took her sisterâs hand and
walked up to Emmanuel, saying, âWeâve already agreed to form a team with
the four of us.â
The corners of Jonathanâs lips twitched even more violently.
Isaac had an upset expression on his face as well. Where did this man come
from? He has snatched away the three prettiest divas. What chances do we
still have?!
Still, Jonathan was an expert at flirting. He always went out and fooled
around at night, so he knew a lot of tactics. He quickly smiled and said, âAfter
the game of laser tag, Mr. Lane and I will treat everyone to a meal. So, I
suggest we donât break into so many small teams for laser tag; just two
teams will do. Does anyone have any objections?â
No one did.
No one dared to, either.
Everyone knew that Isaac wasnât one to be messed with; after all, he was
rumored to have connections among the higherâups in Yeringham.
