Chapter 286
Love at the Wrong Table
Chapter 286
Jaxton averted his gaze. He couldnât help but look down to where Terence
and the others were seated.
He finally realized that Emmanuelâs wife was none other than the daughter of
the Quillen family.
He had always thought that Roselynn was marrying above her station, but
things werenât quite what it seemed. The discovery made him panic.
Losing patience for Jaxtonâs stutter, Emmanuel began, âJaxton, since my
sister chose to marry you, Iâll see you as a family too. The Lowe family are
indeed commoners. We have no wealth, no influence, and no connections.
However, if any of you dare to wrong my sister or bully her, Iâll make you pay
the price.â
The crowd fell into silence at his announcement. The guests turned to each
other and exchanged looks between them.
The Oatleys didnât dare to speak up.
If Emmanuel said those words before today, the Oatleys would only fume at
his accusation.
After all, he was just a commoner. He shouldnât step on their ego and talk to
them with no respect.
However, they were feeling guilty at the moment.
After all, Roselynn was wronged and beaten by another person on the
Oatleysâ territory. And her brother, the man on the stage, was the husband of
the daughter of the Quillen family. The Oatley family didnât dare to mess with
them.
âItâs okay, Manny. Calm down.â At last, it was Roselynn who spoke up with a
smile.
She was grateful that her brother was standing up for her, but it wasnât
necessary at this point.
After witnessing what Terence and Claudette were capable of, the Oatleys
treated her with respect. Nobody dared to look down upon her anymore.
Besides, she had always seen marriage as a game. The player who was
better at compromising won. One must compromise with their situation to
make their marriage work.
She was in her thirties. She decided to end her single status so her mother
could stop worrying about her.
Therefore, she smiled at Emmanuel. âIâm wellârespected in the Oatleys.
Nobody would dare to pick on me. Donât you agree with me, Jaxton?â
Jaxton was surprised by that and he immediately agreed with a smile. âThatâs
right. I, Jaxton Oatley, hereby pledge to love and cherish my wife. Iâll never let
anything happen to her.â
The crowd immediately applauded.
Their applause was getting louder and louder. Most of the guests thought
that it was a part of the wedding.
At that, the atmosphere in the hall became warmer.
âAll right, Jaxton. I believe your words. Iâll entrust Roselynn to your care from
today on.â Emmanuel finally let Jaxton off the hook.
Terence chuckled loudly at the table. âLook at that guy, Felicity and Ms. Lenoir.
Heâs a dependable man. One would be lucky to be his family because heâll
protect them at all costs.â
Felicity forced a smile. She said nothing but her mind was thinking otherwise.
Itâs all about foolhardiness. If it isnât for the old man to back him up, he would
never have the courage and power to say those words.
Claudette couldnât bring herself to laugh at all. There was a lump in her
throat. She simply excused herself and left the table on her own.
Why did I choose to sit with them? Do I want to torture myself that much? No
matter what happens, Emmanuel will always be Mackenzieâs husband. Itâs
only normal to establish a more intimate relationship on that basis, including
giving birth to a child.
â
In contrast, she could never establish an intimate relationship with
Emmanuel because it was forbidden and wrong. People would never bless
them with a future.
But Iâm the one who got to know Emmanuel before her.
âWhat happened, Ms. Lenoir? You seem down.â
Claudette went outside to take a breather and a young man followed her. He
had a wry smile on his face.
âWhat are you doing here, Hubert?â
She was surprised to see the second son of the Verkade family. How does the
wedding have anything to do with him?
Little did she know, Hubert and Isaac were friends. Moreover, he was Selinaâs
classmate. Most importantly, he was Lauraâs nephew. She invited him to the
wedding.
Thus, Hubert followed Isaac to join the fun. He even witnessed Terence
teaching Isaac a lesson earlier.
Realization dawned on him. No wonder Emmanuel was so agitated when I
confessed to Mackenzie. He even put the candles out like an aggressive man.
It turns out that Emmanuel isnât Mackenzieâs driver but her husband!
