Chapter 130
Bogus Billionaire
Avery stopped him before he spilled the truth. âHey, Bryan, can you serve the desserts?â
Bryan caught himself when he noticed he almost slipped up. Then, he went into the kitchen moodily, Caroline watched Bryan leave. She asked with curiosity, âSo, Bryan was just saying thatâ¦â
âItâs nothing Avery clenched her fist underneath the couch pillow and smiled calmly. âJust ignore him.â
She took Carolineâs hand and examined the diamond ring that had been tucked away for years.
âWhat a lovely ring.â
Secretly, she thought, âThis should have been mine.â
âIt is.â Caroline glanced at the ring with tenderness.
Meanwhile, Kirk frowned after listening to Ivanâs explanation. âWhy did we have to trouble Avery? Itâs not like we donât have villas for this occasion.â
Ivanâs eyes twinkled as he laughed jovially.
âAre you sure you want to show Caroline our villas? Theyâre worth way more than this one. Well, Avery was fine with lending us the villa. You shouldnât be complaining.â
Kirk rested his hand on his forehead. He wasnât about to fall for his dadâs lie.
âYou must have suspected a fraudulent marriage. And you wanted to put Caroline and me to the test by involving some outsiders as well.â
Ivan smiled after his plan was exposed by his son. âThatâs nonsense. Of course, I believe in you.
Caroline looks quiet and sweet. I can tell that sheâs a nice lady. Treat her well.â
Kirk ignored his dadâs praise. âYeah, you better curb your enthusiasm. Donât make trouble and mess this up. Else, you wonât be having grandkids anytime soon.â
Ivan was delighted to hear that. âHave you been planning for a baby?â
Kirk left the question hanging and opened the door to the study.
He waved to Caroline, who was in the living room. âCaroline, come up here She looked up with a sweet smile. âSure.â
Then, she turned to Avery and Bryan. âThank you. Iâll go upstairs for a rest. Talk to you tomorrow.â
âSure. The siblings stood up and watched as Kirk and Caroline entered the room.
After that, Avery wiped the smile off her face.
Bryan lamented, âIâm afraid Kirkâs married. Otherwise, he wouldnât have given Caroline the ring that Mrs. Morrison left her daughterâinâlaw.â
With a sour face, Avery puffed âYou know Kirk well. Heâs a meticulous guy. If he even put the ring on display, that would only mean they are putting on a show.â
She refused to believe that Kirk had fallen for another woman. As his childhood friend, she knew that Kirk had been indifferent to women over the years. Heâd only smile at her.
Thatâs why she believed he should marry her, not a random woman whom heâd known for a mere few months.
She looked at the study and said, âBryan, go home without me. I need to talk to Kirkâs dad.â
âBut I canât have you going home alone at night.â
âI can stay the night here too. This is my home, with dozens of rooms. Are you worried I wonât have a place to stay tonight?â
With that, she strutted up to the second floor and knocked on the door of the study. âIvan.â
Ivan beamed at her. âWhatâs the matter, Avery?â
Avery whispered something to Ivan. He frowned after hearing her plan.
âThat doesnât sound good. Kirk might blame us if something goes wrong. Just now, he assured me that he was married to Caroline, and they are thinking of having a baby.â
Avery dug her fingernails into her palms and squeezed a smile.
âBut Ivan, if we donât try it, how can we know whether heâs lying? Plus, itâs just a test. Donât worry about safety. Nothing will go wrong.â
Iván hesitated before asking, âAre you sure?â
