Chapter 197
Bogus Billionaire
Gwen wanted to flee, but she knew that sheâd give herself away by doing so. With a reluctant heart, she walked behind Caroline Lower her voice, she asked, âWhy is he here?â
A soft smile hung on Carolineâs face. She pursed her lips and said, âHeâs kind of pitiful since he doesnât have many friends here in the country.
Caroline turned and looked right into Gwenâs eyes. âGwen, are you hiding something from me?
Gwen instantly looked away. âNâno.â
âReally? Why do I feel like thereâs something off with you two?â
âThatâs not true!â Gwen denied it adamantly. From the corner of her eye, she noticed Sean coming their way, and she straightened her back.
He leaned over and grabbed the handle of her luggage. âGive it to me.â
âNo need-âGwen took a huge step backward, as if he were an electric cable that would electrocute her.
Then, she realized that she had overreacted. Hastily, she added, âI can do it on my own.â
Seeing how awkward Gwen was made Caroline giggle. She told Gwen, âYou take Seanâs car. Iâm going back to Kirks.â
Caroline got into Kirkâs car, leaving a dumbstruck Gwen standing with Sean downstairs.
Yet Sean looked as though nothing strange had happened. He simply helped Gwen with her luggage and said. âGet in.â
Gwenâs legs felt as heavy as lead. She hesitated, not knowing whether to move or stay rooted at the spot.
Sean watched her in amusement. His prominent facial features looked even more dashing when he smiled.
The lethargy on his face had now vanished without a trace. âWhat is it?â
âWeâa panicked Gwen started to say something.
However, Sean interrupted her. âDidnât you say that we should act as if nothing ever happened? Since nothing happened before this, weâre still friends, right? Are you so rigid around your friends? He questioned.
Gwenâs eyes turned as wide as saucers. âCan we really pretend that it never happened?
âUnless you donât want to.â
Gwen nodded without a second thought. âOf course, I want to.â
Sean felt rather ticked off at how swiftly she had responded to that.
Still, he nodded and said, âGet in the car then.â
After that, Gwen finally let down her guard and got into Seanâs car.
All this time, Caroline had been watching their interaction from Kirkâs car. Seeing that Gwen had finally relented, she turned to smile at âLetâs go.â
Kirk subconsciously reached out to hold her hand and bring it up to his mouth for a kiss. âI take it youâre happy nowâ
âYep.â Caroline hurmmed.
Kirk glanced sideways to look at her with tenderness in his eyes.
The journey to the cherry farm was a silent yet short one.
It wasnât peak season yet, so there werenât many tourists around. Most of the people who came were parents who brought the sats here for social work.
There were a few couples here and there, and the majority of the people were from a group tour +15 BONOS notice them.
Caroline asked the staff for some baskets and scissors. Then, the four of them headed to a more secluded area.
Gwen didnât want to stay with Sean, so she said, âCarol, letâs go there.â
Caroline was about to go the other way with Gwen when Kirk grabbed her wrist and said, âMy wifeâs here to spend time with me, Let Sean go with you.â
Sulking, Gwen muttered. âYouâre so selfish.â
Her eyes fell on Sean, and she paused for a moment before saying, âSorry to trouble you then, Dr.
Yates.â
âLetâs go.â Sean stood up.
After the two of them left, Caroline didnât bother to suppress her laughter anymore. âIsnât it too obvious that youâre being a matchmaker for them?â
Furrowing his brows, Kirk brushed away the strands of hair that had fallen on her cheeks.
âMatchmaker? What do you mean?â
Caroline was flabbergasted. It was clear as day that there was something between Gwen and Sean.
How could Kirk not notice this?
âCanât you see that thereâs something between them?â Caroline was dublous.
Kirk stared at her, his face serious. âNo. All my attention is on you.â
Caroline blushed at his reply. âYou really are-â
âWhat?â He leaned in. The corners of his lips curved upward in a smirk.
There were lots of people around, so Kirkâs action made Caroline blush even more. She pressed her hands against his chest to stop him.â Stop fooling around.â
Her reaction made Kirk smile. He stopped his teasing, took up a pair of scissors, and started plucking some cherries. âDo you like cherry juice, darling?â
âItâs fine, I guess,â said Caroline.
âLetâs pluck more cherries today, then. Iâll make you some cherry juice when we go back.â A smirk appeared on his face when he said that. The intention behind the smile was unclear.
Caroline didnât understand why heâd bring up this topic all of a sudden, but she had an ominous feeling about it.
After the four of them each had a basket full of cherries, they gathered and went to a restaurant for lunch nearby.
They werenât in a rush to go back to the city after finishing their meal, though. Instead, they went to get some rest at the hostel that Caroline had booked beforehand.
Later in the afternoon, they planned to head to the sunflower garden.
The hostelâs owner was an amiable woman in her 40s. âDonât be shy about telling me what you need,â
she told them.
She handed over the keys to their rooms to Caroline. She couldnât help but eye them up and down.
Caroline was about to thank her and leave when Kirk suddenly spoke, âDo you have a Juicer or a blender here?â
âDo you want to blend cherries?â the woman asked.
Kirk nodded.
âYes, we have them here. Iâll get one for you. She went to the kitchen to get a juicer for him.
Standing beside Caroline, Gwen painstakingly tried her best to keep a distance between Sean and hersell.
Hearing that Kirk requested a juicer from the hostel owner, she said, âCan you blend some for me too?â
Kirk glanced at her with an indifferent look on his face. âWhatever I do, I only do it for my wife.
*15 BONOS Caroline laughed and nudged Gwen with her arm. She lowered her voice and said, âYou can ask Sean for help. I think heâl be happy to help you with that.â
âNo, thanks,â Gwen snapped, âWeâre just friends now.â
âOh.â Caroline was quick to react. She had grasped the keyword just now. âWhen werenât you friends then?â
This made Gwenâs face flush with blood. âWâweâve always been friends,â she stuttered.
Caroline glanced sideways at her but was careful not to point things out.
Just then, a young woman appeared from the kitchen with a juicer. She appeared to be 17 or 18 years old. She was probably the hostel ownerâs daughter.
Her eyes gleamed when she saw the two dashing men before her.
âGood day,â she greeted them. âWho asked for the juicer?â
âMe.â Kirk strode forth to take the juicer from her.
Then, the young girl clasped her hands together and asked, âCan I add you on WhatsApp?â Her eyes shone brightly when she looked at him.
Kirk didnât hesitate to refuse her request. âI have a wife.â
Disappointment flashed through the young womanâs eyes. A moment later, she glanced at Sean and asked him the same question.
In the past, lots of women had asked Sean for his number, and heâd usually smile and refuse them.
Today, however, he smiled and agreed to it when he noticed how Gwen remained unaffected by it all.
âSure,â he said.
The young woman beamed. âFor real?â
âCertainly.â Sean took out his phone and added her number.
Seeing this, a strange feeling started to surface deep in Gwenâs heart. She pursed her lips as she tried to suppress whatever she was feeling.
