Chapter 205
Bogus Billionaire
Kirk stood by the door. The light fell on his face, and the corners of his mouth curved upward in a smile.
âLetâs go,â he told Caroline, who looked up to meet his gaze.
She strode toward him and hooked an arm around his. âOkay.â
Kirk glanced sideways at her. âWhy are you so happy?â
Caroline tossed him a mysterious smile. âYouâll know once we get our dinner.â
Then, she fistâpumped the air slightly in Gwenâs direction as a sign of encouragement. Gwen pursed her lips at this.
Later, the three of them went downstairs together. Sean was already waiting for them by the door. The place they were going to have dinner was just next door.
Just when the four of them started heading out, Mia came rushing to them. âSean, are you guys going to have dinner?â She asked.
âYes.â
âCan I tag along?â Pouting, she winked at him.
Sean subconsciously glanced at Gwen, whose face paled briefly to see Mia here. Coincidentally, she locked eyes with Sean.
In the blink of an eye, Mia had already walked to Seanâs side. She was tugging at his sleeve. Softly, she spoke. âSean, I can help you to â¦â
It seemed like she was trying to be coquettish right now.
Gwen saw it and bit her lip. âUm, I donât feel well. I wonât be going with you guys.â With that said, she turned away from them and went upstairs.
Stunned, Sean took a moment to react. He hastily thanked Mia and rushed after Gwen.
Miaâs brows scrunched together. But when Caroline looked at her, Miaâs expression immediately reverted back to the naive look she usually wore.
âCaroline, did I say something wrong?â
Caroline remained composed as she replied. âWhat did you say wrong?â
Mia bit her lip, feigning innocence. âWhy did Gwen rush off looking so angry, then?â
âSheâs not feeling well,â Caroline replied curtly.
âBut she looked just fine.â Mia tried to sound concerned.
Staring at the seemingly innocent Mia before her. Caroline decided not to beat around the bush any longer. âYou did it on purpose, right?â
Mia stared back at Caroline, wideâeyed, as though she were innocent. âWhat do you mean?â
Caroline smiled softly at her. âYouâre purposely getting close to Sean in front of my friend. I noticed it back when we were at the sunflower garden.
âSeanâs a straightforward man, so he failed to notice your tricks. But Iâm a woman, and I know what youâre doing. Your tricks are useless against me.â
Mia paled at her words. She was still much too young to face a direct admonishment, after all, âIâIt was Sean who asked me to help him. II only wanted to help Gwen realize that she likes him.â
Then, Caroline plucked out two hundredâdollar notes from her wallet and handed them to Mia. âThank you then.â
It made Miaâs already pale face turn even whiter.
Tears started streaming down her cheeks as she sobbed, âWhat do you mean? Iâm not a prostitute!â
Mla turned to look at Kirk, who stood beside Caroline. âKirk, Carolineâs ridiculous-â
+15 BONOS Caroline didnât want to make things difficult for Mia, so she said, âDidnât you say that Sean asked you to put on a show for my friend? Even supporting actors and actresses get paid. You were the main actress just now. You should get paid too.â
Glowering, Mia bit her lip at the sight of the two hundred dollars in Carolineâs hand.
Refusing to take the money meant that she did indeed have ulterior motives for Sean. Yet if she took the money, sheâd no longer have an excuse to continue putting on an act with him.
