Chapter 238
Bogus Billionaire
Frowning, Caroline turned around to find that Eddy had followed her.
Adrian also spotted Eddy. Faced with Osburyâs most respected scion, he nodded indifferently. âEddy,â
âWhen did you get here?â Eddy asked as he reached out for Caroline.
He wanted to show that Caroline was his, but Caroline shook him off. She even moved to stand behind Adrian, obviously unwilling to stand with Eddy.
Eddy was sure that she was doing this to make him mad. His gaze darkened as he looked at her in warning.
Adrian must have noticed it, or perhaps he was only behaving absentmindedly, but he moved slightly to block Caroline behind himself.
Even so, the brilliant smile on his face remained flawless. âI just got here. We should meet up sometime.â
âSure.â Eddy clenched his fists.
To Caroline behind Adrian, he said, âCome here.â
Caroline didnât want to use Adrian as a shield. Thus, she walked out from behind Adrian.
âEddy, you seem to have forgotten once again that our engagement was called off a long time ago.â
She remained by Adrianâs side.
unmoving.
Eddyâs expression turned stormy immediately. He looked at Adrian and said, âSorry, we got into a bit of a fight. Iâll contact you another day.â
In other words, Adrian could leave now.
Yet Adrian didnât move. He once again moved in front of Caroline. It was a conspicuous motion, so it was obvious that he had done it intentionally.
Eddyâs expression turned even darker when he saw that. âWhat do you mean by this, Adrian?â
âI donât think you two got into a fight.â Adrian chuckled sunnily.
âI heard that Carolineâs married, but not to you.â
Eddyâs heart squeezed. He gritted out, âThis is between us.â
Adrian countered, âBut Caroline obviously doesnât want to go with you.â
A vein pulsed at Eddyâs temple. âAdrian, donât think I wonât dare to beat you up because our families have a good relationship.â
Adrian remained composed, but he became more amused.
âEddy, thereâs no need to be so shortâtempered. Letâs talk things out. We live in a lawful society, and thereâs surveillance everywhere. If Caroline doesnât want to go with you, you wouldnât want it recorded if things get ugly, would you?â
Eddyâs expression became dazed. There wasnât much of a threat in Adrianâs words, but Eddy was worried that Jude would see him and Caroline fighting.
Everyone knew how much Jude doted on Caroline. If he saw the surveillance footage, Jude would realize that Caroline had no intention off being with Eddy.
Eddy was afraid that Jude would stop helping him get together with Caroline.
âCarolineâ¦â Eddy took a deep breath.
âI know youâre in a bad mood tonight. Letâs talk once youâve calmed down.â Alter saying that, Eddy turned to leave.
Once Eddy was gone, Caroline said to Adrian in gratitude, âThank you.â
After all, there was no reason for Adrian to get into any conflict with Eddy.
Adrian laughed. âThereâs no need to be so polite. We grew up together, so youâre like an older sister to me,â
+15 BONOS place since he was a good head taller than her.
Right then, Carolineâs phone buzzed in her pocket. She took it out and looked at the screen. The private investigator was calling her.
Iâm going to take this call,â Caroline said.
Aduan had also seen the words âPrivate Investigator.â Thus, he nodded and moved away.
Caroline smiled at Adrianâs considerate and gentlemanly behavior. Then, she answered the phone.
The call was from a private investigation agency that Caroline had found in an online ad. The caller immediately boasted about their skills, describing how amazing they were and how they could even get information from abroad.
Caroline o uld tell from this that the agency couldnât be trusted. She hung up impatiently.
Adrian came forward. He looked hesitant but brought it up anyway. âDo you need help?â
Caroline looked up at him. âNo. Iâm just investigating someone. Maybe I should just find another agency.â
There are a lot of shady types when it comes to private Investigators. It can be quite difficult to find someone you can trust. But if you can Inust me, I can help you out.â
Adrianâs tone wasnât overly enthusiastic, Caroline felt like she could rely on him.
Caroline was silent for a moment before saying, âWould it be too much trouble?â
âItâs just making a phone call. Besides, Iâm helping my friend get business. How much trouble is that?â
Al this, Caroline laughed and said, âThen Iâll have to trouble you with it.â
Adrian smoothly took his phone out and exchanged numbers with Caroline. âIâll let you know when I get the information.â
âThank you very much, Adrian. Iâll buy you a meal when youâre free one day.â
Aditan wanted to say that he was free now, but he thought it was too soon. He replied, âAlright.â
Meanwhile, Eddy had returned to the private room.
He couldnât hold back his temper and swept a hand across everything on the table, making it fall to the ground.
Caroline had made a fool of him in front of yet another man! She was really getting more and more out of hand!
Eddyâs temper wouldnât subside. He didnât know who to talk to about this. After going through all of his contacts, he found he could only vent about it to Kirk.
He texted, âUncle Kirk, isnât she being too much? She would rather go with a friend she hasnât even seen in years, but not me. I must have been treating her too well lately. Thatâs why sheâs acting out. Do you think I should keep ignoring her?â
Kirk quickly sent a reply. âWho did she go with?â
Eddy suddenly couldnât speak. Wasnât Kirk focusing on the wrong thing?
Eddy replied, âAdrian Sorkin, the second son of the main branch of the Sorkin family. I donât think you know him.â
Kirk grinned as he typed on his keyboard. Soon, the webpage displayed Adrianâs information. One of the photos was of him playing basketball as a youth at university. Youthful and sunny, his smile cut like a knife into Kirkâs eyes.
Kirk frowned. He took his phone and sent Caroline a voice message. âDarling, I think I have a fever.â
Caroline felt her phone buzz in her bag as she chatted with Adrian. She pulled it out and found a voice message from Kirk.
He probably wanted her to go home early or something. Without giving it much thought, she clicked on the message.
Kirkâs low and husky voice resounded in the corridor. In response, Carolineâs face heated.
Adrianâs amusement didnât faller. But the air around him seemed to chill slightly. âIs it your husband?â
Caroline nodded shyly, âYes. I think heâs sick, so I have to go home now. Letâs chat some other time.â
