Caroline–smiled softly and said. “What do you mean, Mr. Eddy?”

“Stop pretending. You and I both know it.”

“I won’t know what you’re talking about if you don’t tell me anything.”

Eddy walked and stopped right in front of her, his eyes simmering with rage.

He couldn’t hold it back any longer and roared. “Why did Sloan change his mind all of a sudden? Don’t tell me that you did nothing at all!”

Caroline calmly looked up at him and asked, “Do you have any evidence?”

This effectively shut him up, but a moment later, he said, “I don’t, but the fact that the father and son suddenly changed their minds is much too strange. You must have done something. I know you too well, Caroline, and I know that you would do anything to achieve your goals!”

Caroline smiled, looking all indifferent, as she told him, “Are you saying that you hate us because we do whatever it takes to reach our goals?”

“Yes!” Eddy snapped. “I hate people like you who would harm others and put others at risk just to get what they want!”

This was what Caroline had done to Layla all these years. She would try all means to get her hands on anything Layla wanted or liked.

Eddy himself was the perfect example of this! And now she was after the CEO position here. She had never changed!

Caroline maintained the smile on her face as she continued, “Very well. You’d better remember what you said today.”

She then turned to look at Liam and told him. “The Mackey family changed their mind. Does this have anything to do with me, Mr. Mackey?

Liam looked up at her and felt his lips tremble ever so slightly. In the end, he shook his head and denied it. “Mr. Eddy, this truly has nothing to do with Caroline. It’s all Sloan’s idea!”

However, the more Liam denied it, the more Eddy felt inclined to believe that Caroline must have done something especially awful.

He felt as though his feelings toward her had become more messed up and unclear.

Caroline glanced at her phone to see a message from Sean saying that he was now downstairs. Not wanting to waste more time here, she stood up and declared. “Three votes versus two. So Evans Group’s new CEO is=”

“Hold on.” Eddy interrupted her. “You can’t become the CEO.”

“Why?” Caroline asked coolly.

“Because you don’t have integrity.”

Smiling, Caroline asked, “So, you think that a person without integrity can’t be the CEO here?”

“Yes.” Eddy knew very well that he was being immature, but he simply didn’t want Caroline to get what she wanted.

Then, Caroline sat down again, folded her arms, and stared at him. “So, you want to talk to me about integrity now, huh? Okay then, let’s talk about Layla, shall we?”

Lalya froze when her name was mentioned but smiled soon after.

Caroline was attempting the impossible if she tried to talk badly about her in front of Eddy. Layla had been influencing Eddy all this time to make him think that Caroline was the root of all evil and that she knew nothing about this.
