Chapter 429
Bogus Billionaire
âI know that youâll be on Carolineâs side as her friend. But I must tell you thisâKirkâs issues are complicated. It canât be explained in one or two sentences.
âYouâll only make things more complicated if you get involved. Besides-â
Sean looked straight at Gwen.
His piercing gaze made Gwenâs heart pound uncontrollably, and she stammered, âBâBesides what?
â
âDo you think Kirk will hurt Caroline?â Sean smiled gently.
Gwen pursed her lips. As she looked at his sincere gaze, she couldnât go against his will.
The temperature on her cheeks slowly rose. Worried about being seen through, she impatiently shook off Seanâs hand.
âOkay, I got it. I wonât get involved. You never stop nagging. I shouldnât call you Dr. Yates anymore.
Iâll call you Grandma Yates instead.â
Sean wasnât annoyed by her nickname at all. Instead, he grinned. âYou can call me whatever you want, as long as you enjoy it.â
After a pause, he continued, âBut only you can call me that.â
His exclusive claim tugged at Gwenâs feelings. She felt the warmth on her cheek and tried to ignore her heart, which was about to leap out of her throat.
âYouâre a smart guy. But this trick wonât work on just anyone.â With that, she jerked her hand away from Sean and got out of the car.
Sean was silent. After a while, he realized Gwen had taken his words as flirting. But in truth, he had been speaking from the bottom of his heart.
He shook his head with a sigh. Everyone was right. Being in love was difficult.
Kirk carried Caroline into his room. This room was the same presidential suite he had booked last time.
As Caroline lay on the familiar bed, she felt like time had flown. Back then, she had gotten the message from the mysterious woman right here in this room.
âHere. Drink some water.â Kirk helped Caroline up.
He held the cup and slowly fed Caroline sips of water. He watched her gently, without any trace of impatience in his eyes.
After she drank the water, Kirk asked again, âDo you want to eat anything? Iâll get the chefs to make them for you.â
Caroline silently looked up at Kirk. After a long while, she said, âDonât you have anything to ask me?â
Acting as if nothing had happened, Kirk said calmly, âYou can talk whenever youâre ready.â
Caroline looked at Kirk blankly. He didnât avoid the topic, and he didnât look like he was lying.
âIâll ask someone to bring some food over. What do you want to eat?â Kirk caressed Carolineâs forehead.
âDonât you want to know what happened?â
Caroline didnât feel comfortable about Kirk not asking her anything. It felt as if something was stuck in her chest.
âEveryone has their secrets. Even though weâre husband and wife, weâre still our own person.â
Caroline closed her eyes. âIs it because you have a secret that youâre not asking me anything?â
Although she knew Kirk wasnât someone like that, she couldnât help but think about him this way.
It was as if this was the only way to bring him down to her level.
Kirk said with a smile, âPerhaps.
His good temper and refusal to defend himself angered Caroline. She turned over and sat up from the bed, grabbing Kirkâs collar âBut I donât accept that! I want to ask you everything! Why does that document say you have a wife abroad? Tell me, Kirk!â
