Chapter 46
Bogus Billionaire
Caroline raised an eyebrow and chuckled. âDidnât you just meet Kirk, Dr. Yates?â
Neither Sean nor Kirk had a response to that.
After a beat, Sean regained his ability to speak. âWhat I mean is It means something special when a man says he wants to give a woman a home-â
âShut up!â Kirk warned, his expression stern.
Sean promptly closed his mouth.
âIgnore him. He likes talking nonsense.â
Caroline shook her head. âItâs fine. Dr. Yates is a good conversationalist. But based on the way you interact, it doesnât seem like you two just met. You seem like old friends.â
Sean was stunned. Heâd never expected someone as innocent as Caroline to be so observant. Hence, he didnât dare to say anything else during the ride.
Soon, they arrived at their destination and got out of the car.
The middleman had already arrived.
When he saw them, he walked up. He said enthusiastically, âThis way, please.â
The three of them followed the middleman into the villa.
The villa was three stories tall. It was bigger than the Evansesâ villa, and there was even a pool on the roof.
Caroline tugged at the edge of Kirkâs shirt. When the middleman wasnât paying attention, she whispered, âLetâs just go.â
Kirk answered. âAlright.â
Caroline was surprised by Kirkâs unquestioning behavior. âArenât you going to ask me why?â
âI forgot your parents live near here too.â When heâd gotten the information about the villa, heâd only thought that the name sounded familiar. âI wonât forget next time.â
Caroline was stunned. âYou You think I donât want to keep looking because my parents stay in the area?â
Kirk hummed in agreement.
Carolineâs heart filled with warmth. So this was what it was like to have someone remember things about her.
âOf course thatâs not it.â After all, Kirk was the one buying the house, so it was up to him where the property was located. âThis house isnât cheap. We should go somewhere else if you want to buy one.â
Kirk tilted his head. He met Carolineâs gaze. âDo you like it here?â
Caroline didnât understand. She looked around the villa.
The place was spacious and beautiful. Plus, it was in the city center, so transportation was great. The only drawback was that it was too expensive.
âI like it.â
âThen Iâm buying it.â
Caroline watched as Kirk walked toward the middleman. She rushed over to stop him. âAre you mad?â
This villa had to cost at least 100 million dollars! There was no way Kirk could afford it, even if he worked his whole life.
Kirk looked down at Carolineâs slender fingers on his wrist. He smiled as he asked. âBut donât you like it?â
âIf I said I liked the moon, would you get it for me?â
Caroline cut him off. âI wasnât joking.â
Kirk smirked. âIâm being serious as well.â
Carolineâs heart started racing. Nervous, she looked away.
Kirk, on the other hand, leaned in closer. He tilted Carolineâs head up.
Carolineâs breaths became rushed. She wanted to avoid him but couldnât. All she could smell was the light mint scent Kirk gave off.
âEven though weâre in a fake marriage, I want to do my best to give you a home.â
Each word he said danced in Carolineâs heart.
Yet when she thought of what sheâd promised her parents, her heart started aching again.
