Chapter 495
Bogus Billionaire
During this time, Caroline had been using challenging tasks at work as an excuse to escape the reality of Kirk being Eddyâs second uncle.
Now that Cheryl had brought him up, it felt like a knife stabbing into her heart, making her bleed like a waterfall.
In an instant, she was overwhelmed, and she started sobbing.
Cherylâs expression immediately changed. âCaroline, are you okay?â
Caroline huddled against the table, biting her lip. The papers on the desk fell to the floor because of how the table was shaking.
Cheryl was completely panicked and at a loss for what to do. She wanted to open the door and cry for help, but Caroline stopped her.
âDonât open the door!â she shouted. She wanted to preserve some dignity.
âCaroline â¦â Cherylâs eyes had turned red, too.
âWhatâs going on?â
âCome help me up,â Caroline said with difficulty.
Cheryl had no choice but to follow instructions. She went over and helped Caroline onto a chair. When she touched Caroline, she found Caroline was much colder than a normal person should be.
Once Caroline was sitting down, Cheryl said, her voice choked with sobs, âIâIâll go get a doctor, okay?â
Caroline shook her head gently as she slowly leaned back into her seat. Once her spasms stopped, she said, âItâs nothing. Just get me some warm water.â
Still tearful, Cheryl nodded and went off to get the water.
After Caroline took a few sips, she finally regained some color.
Seeing Caroline this way, Cheryl had to speak carefully. She kept apologizing. âIâm sorry, Caroline.â
âItâs not your fault.â Caroline shook her head tiredly.
âGo out first. Let me calm myself down.â
Cheryl glanced at Caroline in worry. However, at Carolineâs insistence, Cheryl finally left the office.
But she didnât dare to go too far. She remained in the waiting area outside Carolineâs office and did her work there.
Inside the office, Caroline held one hand to her forehead and the other one pressed over her heart.
The pain hadnât dissipated. The kind of pain that had assaulted her had nearly killed her.
It seemed that ignoring a problem wouldnât make it go away. Instead, the pressure built up consistently. When it finally exploded, the consequences were much more severe.
Carolineâs lips curved into a mocking smile.
When she had returned from Macovo, she should have gone ahead and divorced Kirk then and there.
That way, she could have gotten everything over with immediately and wouldnât be facing these troubles either.
After trying a few times, Caroline finally managed to pick up her phone with trembling hands and open her list of blocked numbers.
She expended a lot of effort to finally unblock Kirkâs number. Then, she sent him a text.
It read, âSee you at City Hall at 9 am on Wednesday.â
After sending the message, she once again blocked Kirkâs number. She didnât want to hear any more excuses.
She felt like a complete fool. She should have divorced Kirk when she had found out that he had another wife abroad.
What had been the point of dragging things out? Had she still been hopeful?
She had been hurt once before, so where had she found the strength or the confidence?
Gwen said that Caroline was a brave person, but in reality, she was st* pid. She never remembered the lessons she had learned.
She had already been burned once with Eddy, but she had allowed herself to get hurt once again.
Worse, it had happened because of another member of the same family.
If people found out that her husband was Eddyâs second uncle, she would probably become the greatest joke of the year.
Caroline hugged her shaking body and let the sharp pain of her thoughts run through her body.
