Chapter 504
Bogus Billionaire
Soon, the curtains onstage lifted. The selection committee members all took their seats. Only Mariettaâs seat remained empty.
Caroline really liked this renowned playwright, especially her cutting language style. It always drew her interest. That was why she was so excited to see Marietta.
She tried her best to focus on Mariettaâs seat, but her gaze still automatically drifted to the person next to her.
The man beside her still had his legs on her thighs.
With the lights dimmed in the theater, others might think that their legs were only pressed together, but Caroline knew how much contact Kirk had with her.
A memory played like a movie in her head. Caroline used up all her energy not to look over at Kirk in her peripheral vision.
Why was it so hard?
She remembered that it hadnât been so hard when she had had to forget Eddy before.
As Carolineâs thoughts were in a mess, a flurry of footsteps came from behind them. She took a breath and turned her head toward the source of the noise.
At a glance, she saw Marietta in the middle of a throng of people.
Caroline was stunned for a moment. She had always thought that Marietta was a foreigner, but she looked Eastonian.
Plus, the instant she saw Marietta, Caroline had a familiar feeling, like she had seen her somewhere before.
That feeling only grew stronger as Marietta walked closer.
It was only after Marietta took her seat that Caroline finally looked away.
Right then, Marietta looked back slightly and looked in Carolineâs direction. However, her gaze wasnât focused, so Caroline couldnât be sure if Marietta had been looking at her.
The producer next to Marietta noticed this movement and asked in concern, âWhat is it, Ms. Weiss?
âItâs nothing.â Marietta looked away, disappointed.
For some reason, as she had walked past the audience seats, she had gotten a strange feeling. But when she had looked back again, that feeling had disappeared.
âMs. Weiss.â
The producer handed Daphneâs information to Marietta. âThis is the leading lady we chose for you.
What do you think?â
Before this, a higherâup had told her that the actress for the lead role had already been decided internally.
Although she didnât approve of such a selection method, âDaughter of the Seaâ was one of her early works and was very undeveloped. She had never expected that it could sell for such a good price.
She was grateful enough that Collins Group had chosen to invest in it. Thus, she didnât have much of an opinion about the selection.
Marietta said, âSheâs not my ideal lead since she looks somewhat cruel. But if Mr. Collins chose her, Iâll agree, even if I have an objection.â
â
The producer smiled. He didnât think Marietta needed to be so straightforward.
âShall we start?â Marietta looked up at the stage.
The producer quickly said, âYes, yes. Iâll have them get ready.â
As he spoke, he looked at a staff member, who turned to head backstage.
Seeing this movement, Caroline knew that they would be starting soon. She straightened and concentrated on the stage.
Although the pressure on her legs was still very strong, she became a whole other person as she focused on her work.
Kirk had been watching Caroline the entire time. Even so, she had never turned to look at him.
This feeling of being ignored made him very uncomfortable.
Kirk frowned hard, doing his best to keep from dragging Caroline out for a chat.
