When Sonia and Gwen heard this, they finally felt relieved.

“Take us to see her, then,” Gwen said, grabbing Sean’s arm.

Sean was silent for a moment before pulling his arm away. “Let Mr. Lane take you. I’m busy, so I’ll be making a move.”

“Ms. Jameson, Ms. Newman, follow me.”

Charles‘ words brought Gwen back to earth. She followed Charles, feeling greatly unsettled. As for why, she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.

At the ward, Gwen wasn’t able to complain when she saw Kirk with reddened eyes. He must have stayed up all night. The words were stuck in her throat.

“You’re here.” Kirk looked up at them before shooting a glance at Charles.

“Charles was about to explain when Kirk said blandly, “Please take care of Caroline.”

“Where are you going?” Gwen blurted out.

“To settle the score.”

“To settle the score? With the Collins family?” Gwen had only found out that Caroline had been abducted by the Collins family on the way here. “Do you think that’s possible?”

Without answering Gwen, Kirk strode out.

She was about to chase after him when Sonia held her back.

“Gwen.” Sonia looked in the direction Kirk went. “You should let him do something. Otherwise, he’ll suffocate if he stays here.”

“But he won’t be able to do anything. Even if he’s Eddy’s second uncle’s employee, do you think the Morrison family would go against the Collins family because of him? He’s really …”

“Gwen,” Sonia said as she pressed Gwen into a chair.

“Maybe he has his own way to solve this problem. Besides, haven’t the police caught the suspects? As long as those people say that Jane is the mastermind, she’ll go to prison.”

“Will Jane really be sent to prison?” Gwen looked up at Sonia.

“The Collins family is so influential, she might…”

“Gwen, you have to trust that there is justice in this world.”

But Gwen only frowned in response. She gave a bitter laugh and said, “Is there really justice in this world?”

“There is.”

Sonia bent down and looked right into Gwen’s eyes. “Look at me. Everyone told me that hard work was pointless. If I hadn’t worked so hard, would Caroline have noticed me?”

Gwen shivered violently. Her lips moved as she looked at Sonia.

Jane’s birthday banquet was being held at the Collins residence.

The invitees were all members of the big four families. Knowing that Kirk would attend, they all arrived early as a sign of respect for Howard. Once they went through the door, they greeted Howard warmly.

In the past, none of these people had cared for Howard at all. After all, they all knew that the Collins family was only one of the elite four because of how they had sucked the Evans family dry.

The other three families, the Morrisons, the Hacketts, and the Sorkins, all relied on their long- standing businesses to get their positions in the big four families.

It was only natural that they didn’t respect the Collins family, who had gotten their position through tricks and schemes.

But things were different now.

Howard had partnered up with Eddy’s second uncle, which made it so that everyone else needed to get on his good side now.

“Mr. Collins, congratulations!” The head of the Sorkin family, Damien Sorkin, immediately congratulated Howard when he went inside.

Howard looked overjoyed. “Thank you, thank you.”

Right then, one of the family’s staff ran in from the outside. When he got to Howard, he said, “Sir, the Morrison family has arrived.”

When they heard this, the gathered people immediately became excited and walked over to the entrance.

Howard walked in front of them. When he saw several luxury cars stopped outside, his smile became blindingly bright.
