Chapter 564
Bogus Billionaire
Kirk would always be there for her.
Caroline slowly dozed off in his arms. In her sleep, she dreamed that she was the mother of three children, all of whom were very beautiful and lovable.
They would surround her and call her âmommyâ. She gradually lost herself in their affectionate calls.
Just as she was consumed with joy, the three children suddenly grew up. Each of them held a knife in their hand, pointing it at her. Their cute expressions were replaced with ferocious ones.
One by one, they shouted, âItâs all because of you that we ended up like this.
âYou didnât raise us well.â
âHurry up and give us some money, you old hag!â
Caroline opened her eyes in fright.
Her sudden movements naturally woke up Kirk as well. He looked down at Caroline and asked, Whatâs wrong, darling?â
â
Caroline looked up at Kirk in confusion before shaking her head. âNothing. I just had a nightmare.â
Kirk said, âIâll get you some water.â
âNo, itâs fine.â
Caroline urgently grabbed Kirkâs hand. She kept her body arched, forcibly nestling herself into Kirkâs arms as if she could dispel the chills she felt.
Kirk asked helplessly, âDarling, can I take this as you trying to entice me?â
Carolineâs face turned red at his words, and her phone rang just as she was about to speak.
She looked at her phone. It was an unfamiliar number, and it was an international call. Hesitantly, she answered the call.
Then, she heard a strange yet familiar voice on the phone.
âIs this Caroline? Iâve already written the first part of my new play. Do you want to read it?â
Caroline froze for a moment before realizing that the caller should be Marietta.
She looked at the time, and she understood. It was probably still daytime where Marietta was, so she didnât realize it was already late at night in Easton.
Marietta was a sentimental person. She had even remembered to send Caroline her play.
âOf course, why donât you send it over?â Caroline asked, sitting up on the bed. Since she couldnât sleep after her nightmare, she could read the play to pass the time.
Marietta quickly sent the script to Caroline.
Caroline told Kirk she couldnât sleep and went to the couch to read the play. Kirk poured her a glass of water and sat by her side to keep her company.
Mariettaâs play was so well written that Caroline was hooked after reading a few lines. When she finished the part and looked forward to more, she realized Kirk had already fallen asleep.
She stood up quietly. After covering Kirk with a blanket, she sent a text to Marietta.
âIâve finished your masterpiece. You wrote it so well. When it comes to commenting on current affairs, your precise and rare point of view is always a delight.â
Marietta quickly replied, âIâm definitely good at writing things Iâm familiar with. Unfortunately, Iâm a mess when describing family relationships.â
Caroline smiled and texted, âMaybe itâs because you have a very happy family life. Thatâs why you donât have much experience in this aspect.â
It had been a while since Caroline sent the message, but Marietta didnât reply. She didnât think much of it and picked up the phone to reread Mariettaâs new play.
It was when she finished reading it that she noticed Marietta had replied to her text.
âNo, itâs precisely because I have a miserable family life.â 1 Caroline was shocked by her message. She had never expected someone as successful as Marietta to have a bad family life!
