Chapter 622
Bogus Billionaire
The doctor sadly shook his head. âThe bullet hit Mr. Morrison Seniorâs heart. Not even a God can save him from this. My condolences.â
Upon hearing the doctorâs words, Caroline felt her body sway, and she almost fell to the ground.
Meanwhile, Eddy and Thomas couldnât believe their ears.
âDoctor, there has to be another way.â Eddy grabbed the doctorâs arm.
âIt doesnât matter what method you use and how expensive the equipment is! Iâll pay for everything. I donât care about the money. I just want my grandpa alive.â
The doctor looked at Eddy sadly. âMr. Eddy, weâve already tried our best.â From his words, Judeâs death was already a foregone conclusion.
There was a brief silence in the hospital. Then, there was Carolineâs soft sobs.
Immediately afterward, Eddyâs furious voice sounded. âImpossible. My grandpa is still very healthy! You must have other ways to save him, right? I order you to go in there and treat him right this instant!â
The doctor said awkwardly, âMr. Eddy, please calm down. Mr. Morrison Senior is about to draw his last breath. You should go in there and talk with him one last time before itâs too late.â
As the oldest one there, Thomas was much calmer than Eddy. He grabbed Eddy and said, âLetâs get in there.â Having said that, he pushed Eddy into the ward.
Just like that, only Caroline and Layla were left in the corridor. Layla smugly looked at the closed door, smiling triumphantly.
She had already trying to hold back her joy since the doctor had said Jude was about to draw his last breath.
Jude was biggest obstacle to her marriage to Eddy, and he was finally about to die. After he died, she no longer had to worry about being unable to join the Morrison family.
When she became the future Mrs. Morrison, she would first visit Judeâs grave and tell him about the joyous news. She wanted him to roll around in his grave.
âOh my, still fake crying now, are you?â Layla sneered at Caroline, who was trembling behind her.
She squatted down and grabbed Carolineâs chin.
âOh, youâre actually crying. I thought you were faking it. Are you crying because youâre worried about your future?â
After a pause, she continued, âYou must be really sad because no one will protect you after that old coot kicks the bucket.
âHmph, I can see that happening. You should get on your knees and beg me for mercy. After becoming the future Mrs. Morrison, Iâll reward your loyalty with a job. How about it?â
Carolineâs eyes reddened at her words, and she slowly clenched her hands on the ground into fists.
Just as Layla was about to straighten up, Caroline scratched her clothes, skin, and hair like a madwoman.
âLayla, shame on you! If it hadnât been for Grandpa, you wouldnât be standing here right now!â
Caroline couldnât believe Layla could say such callous words when Jude was about to pass on. She was simply inhumane!
Caroline attacked Layla relentlessly, not giving the latter any room to retaliate.
Fortunately, the nurse nearby heard the commotion and quickly stepped forward to break them apart.
With outsiders restraining Caroline, Layla immediately acted miserably like she always did.â Caroline, I know youâre upset because Grandpa died for you, but you canât take out your grief on me!
Right now, Caroline didnât want to do anything other than to tear Layla to shreds. She had been too civilized in dealing with Layla in the past.
Layla was a callous bitch who wouldnât even respect the dead. Since she wouldnât be civil, Caroline had no reason to play nice. She might as well get rid of Layla like a brute.
Just when things were getting worse, the doors to the operation theatre opened again. Eddy walked out despondently.
Upon seeing him, Layla stepped forward. She dropped her smug act and asked with concern, âIâIs Grandpa â¦?â
