Chapter 633
Bogus Billionaire
After hanging up, Caroline played Gwenâs super long voice message.
It started with Gwen guffawing. âCarol, do you know who I bumped into when I went to visit my mom at the hospital just now? I met Eddy!â
âHeâs wrapped in bandages like a mummy!â she exclaimed âThe doctors and nurses said that one of the elders in the Morrison family beat him up!â
âThis is karma at its best!â
Gwen laughed and added, âJust who was the person who did this to him?â
Caroline didnât respond. She just listened quietly to Gwen.
Perhaps it was because Jude had taken a bullet for her that she didnât find any of this funny. Although she disliked Eddy and his family, he was Judeâs grandson.
Gwen abruptly noticed that Carolineâs status remained âtyping for quite some time.
Gingerly, she messaged Caroline again. âCarol, I shouldnât have said that, right?â
When Caroline saw the message, she froze momentarily before smiling wryly at the screen to reply. âNope. Itâs my problem.â
âWhatâs wrong?â
âI was the reason Grandpa died. Logically speaking, I should hate Eddy to the bone for all the awful things he had done in the past.
âAfter Grandpa saved me, Iâm grateful for what he did for me, but I still hate Eddy somehow.
âI donât know how to face Eddy or the Morrisons because of these mixed feelings.â
Gwen tried to put herself in Carolineâs shoes but found it very difficult to deal with. So she replied, âLetâs not think about it for now. Weâll leave it for tomorrow.â
Her message made Caroline smile. Gwen was right. Some things were better left for tomorrow.
Jude said his greatest regret was not being able to see Caroline and Eddy together, but she didnât have to put much thought into it for now, at least until after Judeâs funeral.
âWanna go shopping?â Gwen was afraid that Caroline would overthink things if she were alone at home âDonât you have to go to work today?â
âNope. How about we ask Kirk to come along with us? That way, we wonât have to carry the bags later.â Gwen started preparing a letter of leave soon after sending the message.
Caroline smiled again. âAlas, he just went on a business trip today.â
âFor real? Fine, Iâll be the slave to cany your bags then.â Gwen protruded her lower lip in a pout as she sent the message.
âWhy donât we take Sean along?â Caroline suggested.
âNah. How could I let him suffer?â
âAre you sure? Maybe he would be happy to do it.â
âI wonât call him no matter what,â Gwen was adamant.
Caroline got the hint right away and replied, âIâll call him then â
Then, she called Sean, who was on his way back to his apartment. A chill ran down his spine when he saw that Caroline was calling him. His finger subconsciously hovered over the ârejectâ
button.
After a moment, though, he answered the call. âHey, Caroline,â he said.
He held his breath, ready to recite the script that he had prepared beforehand in case she called.
âGwen and I are going shopping,â Caroline told him.
âDo you want to come along with us?â
Startled, Sean fell silent. He had assumed that she was calling to ask him about Kirk.
As the smartest guy in his social circle, Sean immediately assumed that Kirk had succeeded in settling the issue and explaining himself to Caroline.
âSure.â Sean heartily accepted her invitation. He would agree to go shopping with them as long as she didnât ask him about Kirk.
Besides, Caroline said that Gwen was going shopping with her. So he had no reason to refuse.
