Chapter 642
Bogus Billionaire
Kirk had just entered a highâend wine cellar when a man who looked like the manager walked over. He was friendly as he asked, âExcuse me, are you the man Mr. Thomas Morrison is meeting?â
Kirk gave an affirmative answer.
The manager replied, âThis way, please.â
Kirk followed the manager to a private room. Soon, he found Thomas inside, tasting wine.
When Thomas saw Kirk, he immediately stood up. âYouâre here.â
Kirk nodded Thomas waved. Once the manager left the room, he said, âI know you donât like too many people knowing who you are. Thatâs why I chose this kind of place. Are you happy with it?â
Kirk sat down before saying, âThomas, you didnât invite me out just for some small talk, did you?â
In response, Thomas chuckled a bit. âYouâre too smart, Kirk. I wonât beat around the bush with you.
Dadâs funeral is in two days. Will you be attending it?â
Kirk paused. âIâm not sure yet. Iâll have to look at my schedule.â
Thomas said, âKirk After a moment of hesitation, he continued, âI know the relationship between our fathers never got any better.
âIf you hadnât come back to the country for business, Iâm sure our families would never have come into contact again âBut the past is in the past. We have no grudges between us in our generation. Now that my dad has passed away, isnât it time to put aside the grudges of the previous generation and live happily?
Iâve already called Uncle Ivan. It seems he hasnât let go of what happened in the past. He wonât attend my fatherâs funeral.
âWell, I can understand that. But if you donât attend, Iâm afraid other people will make wild guesses about why.â
Kirk leaned backward and focused his gaze on Thomas. âThomas, I canât give you a definitive Thomas sighed once again. âKirk, can you tell me what actually happened? Hasnât your relationship with Eddy always been very good? How did things end up like this all of a sudden?â
Kirk frowned. After a moment, he stood up. âIâll tell you once I get my schedule settled.â
Before Thomas could get up, Kirk had already left.
Watching Kirk walk off expressionlessly, Thomas sighed helplessly once more.
The second Kirk left, Eddy called Thomas.
âDad, what did Uncle Kirk say?â
Eddy was still lying in the hospital after he had gotten beaten up out of nowhere. He had spent the past few days thinking hard about why Kirk had hit him, but he hadnât been able to come to any sort of conclusion.
âHe says heâll tell us when heâs confirmed things,â Thomas said.
âDonât bother with this for now. Just focus on recuperating at the hospital. In a couple of days, itâll be your grandfatherâs funeral. You have to be a host then, too.â
Eddy could do nothing but hang up. Afterward, he couldnât help but mutter, âMr. Zellen, why do you think Uncle Kirk hit me?â
Simon regarded Eddyâs clear but confused gaze. For a moment, he didnât know what to say. After all, Jude had gone to see Caroline alone that day. As an outsider, Simon really couldnât comment on what had happened.
It would be fine if Kirk wasnât Carolineâs husband. But if he wasâ¦
Simon didnât dare to think too hard about whether there was anything fishy about Judeâs deaths He hadnât known Kirk for a long time, so he could only try to understand Kirk from what others said of him.
Based on how ruthless Kirk was said to be, he could have killed Jude to hide the truthâ¦
Simon didnât dare follow that train of thought. The more he thought about it, the more he shivered.
âMr. Zellen, why are you shaking?â Noticing that Simon was behaving strangely, Eddy stared at the man. âDo you know something?â
Simon was taken aback. Suddenly, his expression became even more unsightly.
âMr. Eddy, I⦠I donât know anything either.â
âThat canât be. You definitely know something!â Eddy was confident as he pointed at Simon.
