Chapter 653
Bogus Billionaire
âAlright, then Iâll leave now. Have a good rest.â Eddy only turned to leave after a moment of hesitation.
Once the door closed, Caroline couldnât take it anymore. She collapsed into bed. She really missed Kirk. She really wanted to be in his arms.
Picking up her phone, Caroline checked the time on the screen. In the end, she didnât dial Kirkâs number.
Laying in bed, she closed her eyes. Once again, she recalled what Jude had said to her in her dream.
That night was destined to be a sleepless one.
When she woke up the next day, Carolineâs head felt heavy and dizzy.
However, there were a lot of things still waiting for her to settle. Thus, she had to force herself to get into the spirit.
âDid you have a bad night last night?â Eddy hesitantly brought a cup of coffee over.
Caroline looked up. After some thought, she accepted the cup.
âWhy donât I take over?â Eddy felt his heart ache for Caroline at the sight of her this way.
But Caroline said, âNo need. Drinking this coffee will wake me up. Thereâs still lots to do. Tomorrow is Grandpaâs funeral, and I really hope he can leave in peace.â
After she said this, Caroline looked at the ground in a daze, as if thinking something.
Meanwhile, Eddy sat next to Caroline. âYouâve done a lot.â
âItâs nothing. This is what I should be doing.â Caroline hurriedly got up. âIâll get to work now.â
Seeing the stillâsteaming coffee in Carolineâs hands, Eddy gave a bitter laugh. It seemed that Caroline really didnât want to look at him.
Thanks to Carolineâs efforts, everything was carefully organized. Even Thomas couldnât help but praise her. âCarrie, things would be a mess here if it hadnât been for your help these past two days.â
Caroline was shy. âUncle Thomas, youâre being too kind. These are all things I should be doing.â
Thomas replied, âTomorrow is Dadâs funeral. He loved you the most when he was alive, and he always hoped that you would join our family. Itâs just such a shame â¦â
After a pause, Thomas continued, âCarrie, thereâs a favor I need to ask of you. I hope you can agree to it.â
Caroline answered, âPlease tell me.â
âI was hoping you could give Dad a final sendâoff as our daughterâinâlaw.â
Carolineâs expression shifted. âUncle Thomas, Iâm afraid thatâs not appropriate.â
She was already married, so how could she attend the funeral as Eddyâs wife? That would confuse everyone.
âCarrie,â Thomas started, looking troubled.
âI know this would make things hard for you, but all Dad wanted before he died was to see you and Eddy together. Wonât you fulfill his final wish?
âDonât worry about Eddy. Iâll talk him into it. He wonât make trouble for you.â
Caroline was flabbergasted. Was that the issue right now?
The people who attended the funeral tomorrow would surely think that she had gone back to Eddy when they saw her standing next to him. If the news spread to Kirk, what would he think?
Caroline was determined not to agree with this.
Unfortunately, Thomas had been called away by someone.
She shoved down her anger. It seemed that she would have to talk to Thomas about this later, when she had the chance.
It was a shame that Caroline didnât see Thomas again in the short time left. She could only go to sleep, worried.
Yet, once she fell asleep, she had the exact same dream as the one last night.
