Chapter 665
Bogus Billionaire
When Caroline woke up the next day, she saw her wounds had faded, but her scalp was still aching. She stood up and opened the door.
Marietta was watching TV in the room. When she heard the noise, she turned her head and said, Youâre awake!â
âYeah. Thank you so much for yesterday, Mom. You even came to pick me up at such a late time.â
âDonât say such foolish things.â Marietta patted the seat next to her. âSit down and have breakfast with me.â
âOkay.â Caroline sat down beside Marietta.
Marietta looked at Caroline and said with emotion, âIt would be great if my daughter was like you.â
She hadnât slept at all last night. She had kept thinking about what kind of person her daughter was.
Although she could more or less confirm that Yvonne was her daughter, she didnât dare look up any information about her.
She was afraid of seeing something she didnât like. So she could only rely on that photo to imagine what kind of person she was.
âMom, Iâm sure she must be like you, a warmâhearted person whoâs accomplished in the field of literature.â
âHaha, youâre such a smoothâtalker,â Marietta chuckled. âBy the way, howâs the script you wrote some time ago?â
âI wouldâve forgotten about it if you hadnât brought it up.â
Caroline explained, âI just figured out the storyâs outline, but I havenât started writing it yet.â
âItâs okay. Take your time. I was also like this at first too, but as long as you start writing, youâll always make more progress than the day before.â
âOkay.â
âAll right. You should eat your food. After that, you should go home and see Kirk. He must be Caroline nodded at her words. After finishing breakfast, she waved goodbye to Marietta and headed home.
When she reached home, she was surprised to see Kirk there. She walked in, trying to act as natural as possible. âArenât you supposed to be at work?â
Kirk was usually at work at this time. When Kirk saw Caroline return, he strode toward her and hugged her.
Caroline almost couldnât breathe because of how tightly he was hugging her. She whined, âKirk, youâre going to suffocate me.â
Only then did Kirk let go of Caroline. When he saw the inconspicuous scar on Carolineâs head, he froze momentarily. Then, he tightened his grip on Carolineâs waist and questioned, âNo one bullied you in the past few days, right?â
Caroline chuckled. âNo one would even dare! They all know I have a husband whoâs as ferocious as a tiger.â
Kirk ruffled her hair, deliberately avoiding her scar, and pinched her nose. âAre you calling me a tiger?â
âAm I wrong?â Caroline avoided Kirkâs hands with a laugh. Then, she nuzzled against his shoulder and whispered, âYou still havenât told me why youâre not at work.â
Kirk pulled Caroline to sit down on the couch. âThe reason is simple: Iâve resigned.â
Carolineâs eyes widened at his words. âWhat, you resigned? Werenât you-â
âI thought what you said made sense. I couldnât stay in my former company any longer.â
Kirk took Carolineâs hands, carefully observing her expressions. When he saw that she was more shocked than happy, he shook her hand.
âWhatâs wrong? You ⦠you donât seem very happy. Didnât you want me to resign?â
Caroline denied, âNo, itâs not that. Itâs just too sudden. I thought you would only resign some time later.â
âItâs not sudden at all. I have another important reason for not wanting to stay in my former companyâ
