Chapter 670
Bogus Billionaire
Yvonne didnât need Carolineâs opinion either and continued venting her repressed frustrations.
âI like him. I really do. Iâve been secretly in love with him since we were kids. Although everyone said he was an illegitimate child and wouldnât be useful to the family, I couldnât stop myself from falling in love with him.â
Yvonne contÃnued, âWhen he agreed to be set up with me, I thought he liked me too. But it turns out he already likes someone else.â
Caroline remained silent until Yvonne was done ranting. Then, she said, âYou should get a good nightâs sleep. Perhaps then you wonât feel so awful when you wake up the next day.â
âReally?â Yvonne murmured.
Caroline kept the call on until she heard the sound of snoring. After that, she ended the call.
âWhy did your call take so long?â Kirk had gone to work upstairs so as not to disturb Caroline. But he hadnât expected more than an hour to pass by before Caroline hung up the phone.
âShe just had a breakup, so she needed to vent her feelings.â
Caroline felt distressed after listening to Yvonneâs heartbreaking rant. She felt sorry for everyone who suffered from their romantic relationships.
She and Kirk were really lucky to have come this far, but she didnât know how long their luck would last.
She no longer had nightmares. However, whenever she felt any hint of happiness, she would hear a sharp voice saying, âCaroline, youâre absolutely heartless!â
âDarling â¦â
âHuh?â Caroline returned to her senses. âWhatâs wrong?â
Kirk followed Carolineâs line of sight and looked over. Then, he stepped forward to block Carolineâs line of sight and suggested, âWhy donât we move back to the apartment for a while?â
âWhy do you want to move back? Weâre doing fine here.â
Kirk answered, âA small home is cozier â¦â
He wrapped an arm around Carolineâs waist. âWe should live there again, darling. I want to have more privacy with you.â
Caroline couldnât help but chuckle. âSure.â
She knew very well why Kirk suggested moving away. Jude had died here, and he feared staying here would trigger her.
The next day, Caroline and Kirk had just moved back to their apartment when Caroline got a call from Yvonne.
Yvonne was in a much better mood than yesterday. She apologized, âIâm really sorry about yesterday, Caroline. I ⦠How about this?
âYou wanted to buy my brother a gift, right? Iâll take you out to buy one and treat you to a meal as an apology.â
âItâs really okay. Everyone has their bad days.â
âNo, I have to treat you to a meal,â Yvonne insisted.
Seeing that her goal had been achieved, Caroline didnât refuse anymore. After deciding on a time and place with Yvonne, she told Marietta what had happened.
On the phone, Marietta was very grateful to Caroline. âThank goodness you took action, Carrie.
Otherwise, I would never be able to get the DNA test done.â
âHaha, youâre welcome, Mom. Itâs what I should do. Iâve been looking forward to you meeting your daughter.â
Caroline was telling the truth. She would no longer have Mariettaâs love for herself.
But she hoped that Marietta could find her daughter more than anyone else. After all, she knew how hard it was not to have the love of a parent.
