Chapter 67
Bogus Billionaire
After breakfast, Caroline received a text from Gwen. âCarol! Did you really announce your marriage at Mr. Morrison Seniorâs birthday banquet?â
Caroline replied with a âYes.â The second she sent it, Gwen called.
On the phone, Gwen sounded excited. âOh my God! Carol, youâre so brave. Was Mr. Morrison Senior mad? Are you okay?â
âNo, he only said he wanted to meet my husband.â Carolineâs face turned pink when she mentioned Kirk.
Gwen let out a breath. âI was so scared! I thought Mr. Morrison Senior would throw a tantrum. But this is good. Youâve finally escaped that scumbag, Eddy!â
Gwen had barely finished saying that when Eddyâs angry voice came from outside. âCaroline, get out here!*
Caroline was stunned.
Gwen heard Eddyâs shout too. Nervous, she asked, âCarol, whatâs going on?*
âItâs nothing.â Caroline reassured. âIâll call you back in a bit.â
After saying that, she quickly hung up.
Just as she put down her phone, she saw the bedraggled Sarah and Dan. Caroline frowned. She looked confusedly at Eddy beside them.
Eddy stepped forward and asked, âWhereâs your husband?â It was only then that Eddy realized he didnât even know the manâs name.
Caroline gave him an unbothered look. âIs something the matter?â 1 âAre you blind? Canât you see that your parents have been tormented?â
Caroline turned to look at Sarah and Dan as they shivered. She looked confused.
âYour husband got a cab driver to send them on top of a hill, remove their clothes, and leave them there all night in the cold.*
Caroline interrupted Eddy and said, âHow can you prove my husband did it? Do you have evidence?â
Eddy was taken aback. After a second of hesitation, he said, âCaroline, shouldnât you worry about your parents when theyâre in this state? Why are you speaking up for an outsider instead?â
A hint of mockery flashed in Carolineâs eyes. âIâve already said we have nothing to do with each other anymore. I said that when they blackmailed me with their suicide to announce our marriage! All I can say now is that they deserved what they got. Itâs good enough that Iâm not celebrating what happened to them.â (1 This shocked Eddy completely.
Was it Sarah and Dan whoâd forced her to make the announcement?
He looked at Sarah and Dan, both of whom avoided his eyes.
Eddy rubbed his temples. âEven if your parents made a mistake, you shouldnât treat them that way. Get your husband to come and apologize to them. Then, weâll call it even.â
Caroline lowered her head and suddenly laughed.
âHow strange. Youâve never helped them before, even when we were engaged. They were practically your inâlaws then, but you never did anything for them. But youâre trying to get justice for them now that we have no relationship at all?â
Eddy turned livid at Carolineâs words.
It was true that he hadnât cared about the Evans family back then. Even the investments were only made because Jude asked.
He only wanted to intervene now because of what Sarah said-âIt must have been Carolineâs husband!â
He wanted Caroline to know that sheâd married a piece of trash. That letting him go was the biggest mistake of her life!
âI canât watch anymore.â Eddy took a deep breath. âSince youâre already married, then Mr. and Mrs.
Evans are his inâlaws. How could he
