Chapter 691

A few hours later, Caroline was drenched in sweat while lying on top of Kirk. Stubbornly, she asked, “So does this mean that you agree?”

Kirk was silent for a second before he nodded.

Gleefully, Caroline planted a kiss on his cheek. “Kirk, you’re the best.”

Holding Caroline close, Kirk couldn’t help but feel exasperated. It seemed that he had landed himself in some trouble. In a few days, he had to get someone to pretend to be him. He hoped that when Caroline learns of his true identity, she wouldn’t remember this little incident.

After Jude’s passing, Eddy moved into the Morrison residence. In the residence, Eddy felt as though Jude was still lingering.

“I’m sorry.” Eddy brushed his hands across the surface of the table Jude frequently used. ”

Grandpa, I’m really useless. I’m not able to fulfill your final wish. But don’t worry, I’ll make sure Caroline becomes your granddaughter–in–law. That way, your regrets won’t last forever.”

He added, “I’ll also investigate Caroline’s husband and verify if it is indeed Uncle Kirk.”

After the funeral, Eddy had gotten Simon to ask the airline to check. True enough, Kirk had gone to Newonia. Someone had even snapped a photograph of Kirk’s silhouette. The photo wasn’t very clear, but he could recognise Kirk at a glance. Afterall, Kirk was someone Eddy had always idolized.

“Mr. Eddy.” Simon knocked on the door before opening it. Finding Eddy back in Jude’s study, he sighed soundlessly. “Ms. Evans is here.”

“Caroline’s here?” Eddy turned and headed for the door. But before he got there, he found Layla standing by it. With that, the smile on his face froze instantly.

Simon clarified sheepishly, “Not Ms, Caroline, it’s Ms. Layla, “Alright, you may go now,” Eddy walked toward Layla.

Spotting Eddy, Layla immediately put on a pitiful look, “Eddy, I–I’m so glad I can finally see you.

Eddy frowned. “Why are you here to see me?”

“Eddy, shouldn’t you ask me about what I suffered in there?” Layla put on a tearful expression. “I-”

Eddy cut her off brutally. “You brought that on yourself. Did you even know what you were doing?

You nearly killed someone!”

Stunned, Layla stared at Eddy. “Eddy, you’ve really changed. You didn’t use to be like this…”

“That’s because I spoiled you in the past and allowed you to be so reckless. You even faked a disease and was nearly the cause of Caroline’s death. Layla, you saved my life, so I usually let you do whatever you want. But from today onward, I won’t let you hurt Caroline again.”

Layla felt like she’d been hit hard. She said in disbelief, “Eddy, you’ve really changed. Alright. Since you no longer care about me, I won’t persistently pester you anymore. But can you do me one last favor on account of the fact that I once saved you?”

“What favor?”

Eddy finally felt some relief as Layla wasn’t making a huge fuss.

“Have you heard about the acquisition of the Collins Group?”

“Of course I have.”

Layla looked right into Eddy’s eyes. “Well, I want it.”
