Chapter 71
Bogus Billionaire
âI asked him about it, but he still hasnât agreed,â Caroline explained.
Gwen asked, âIs he afraid Mr. Morrison Senior will notice something?â
âWhat is he supposed to notice?â Caroline asked. She thought that Gwen was overthinking things. She said, âEven if heâs the son of a wealthy family, the Evans family would have noticed.â
Gwen stroked her chin. âYou have a poi âEddyâs second unde decided this himself. You stuboonly wouldnât let Caroline off the hook at my birthday banquet. So Eddyâs second uncle came up with a compromise. Yet youâre bringing it up again today to cause Carbine trouble.
âIt seems that I misjudged your change in attitude a few days ago. Ws. Colire. You stil donât know your mares.
Brieâs face tumed pale as she tried to explain, saying âMr. Morison Senior, -tâs not what you think. I was just afraid that Eddyâs second uncle had been deceived, so I was desperate to ask Caroline for an explanation.
Jude smiled. He countered. âLet me ask you this in rear. What right do you have to worry about these things?
Brie blinked and answered. âMy right as his fiancés, of course.*
Rumors about Brie and Kirkâs marriage had been spreading in social circles for a long time. Now that the parties had validated these rumors, everyone couldnât help pricking their ears, wanting to hear the more exciting news.
Standing beside Jude, Carolineâs expression shifted slowly, and she stared at the old man in disbelief.
Jude chuckled. âSince when were you his fiancée?â He wasnât aware that something like this had happened.
Brie explained, âDidnât you agree to my request at your birthday t. At any rate, Mr. Morrison Senior wants to see him, so you should take Kirk to see him. Let that old man observe him for a bit.â
âForget it⦠Caroline lowered her head. âEddy is looking everywhere for Kirk right now. Taking Kirk to see Mr. Morrison Senior is just asking for trouble.â
âThatâs a simple problem. Since Mr. Morrison Senior likes you so much, just tell him not to tell Eddy about your visit. Besides Gwen pushed, âDonât you want to get that old manâs approval?â
Gwen knew Caroline well. She managed to convince her best friend with just a few words. Seeing that Caroline was silent, Gwen dragged her out of the bathroom. She called out to Kirk, who was standing by the bed, âKirk!â
Kirk frowned, looking at Caroline, who was looking down with a flushed face.
Gwen pushed her best friend in front of Kirk and patted her on the shoulder. She said, âGo ahead and talk. Iâll be waiting outside.â After that, she left Caroline and Kirk alone in the hospital room.
âWhat do you want to talk about?â Kirk asked. He saw Carolineâs exposed collarbone and coughed unnaturally, looking away.
âThe same thing as last time. Iâd like you to meet Grandpa,â Caroline babbled, finishing her sentence in one breath. Her beautiful eyes stared at Kirk nervously.
Kirkâs eyes narrowed slightly. âDidnât I agree already?â
âYou did? When?â
âWhen I asked you if you wanted me to go.â
Caroline blinked her eyes, and her lips parted slightly. She couldnât believe what he said. She asked, âSo, youâll agree to the visit because I asked you to?â It was the same as when heâd bought her that house because she liked it.
Kirk nodded.
Carolineâs eyes turned red. She said, âBut Eddy is looking everywhere for you. If we visit Grandpa, we may be walking into a trapâ¦â
Kirk patted Carolineâs head with a smile. âItâs okay. Even if he finds me, he canât do anything to me.â
However, Caroline still had mixed feelings.
âItâs getting late,â Kirk said, looking at the clock on the wall. âYou should rest soon. Iâm going home.â
âKir- Caroline chased him to the balcony, but heâd already slid down the pipe on the wall nimbly and disappeared into the darkness.
When Gwen returned to the room, she noticed it was empty and asked in confusion, âWhereâs Kirk?â
Caroline looked at the ground below her.
Gwen asked in fright, âDâdid he jump? Heâs overreacting. Youâre just taking him to see Mr. Morrison Senior. Itâs not like that old man will eat him alive.â
Caroline looked at her friend impatiently and said, âWhat on earth are you talking about? He just slid down along the pipes on the wall.â
Gwen patted her chest in relief. âOh, that scared me. But heâs really intense. Did he come up here by climbing along the pipes too?â Caroline nodded.
Gwenâs eyes widened in surprise. She gave her a thumbs up. âHeâs really strong!â
Kirk trouble, but she was also worried that Jude would be unhappy with Kirk.
For the past few days, she didnât even have the energy to work on the designs for the competition.
That day, the doctor did Carolineâs final checkup. There werenât any problems, so she could be discharged from the hospital. âMs. Evans.â The doctor held Carolineâs medical records. He asked, âWill your husband be here to pick you up from the hospital?â
Caroline looked at the doctor, puzzled. âNo. Why are you asking?â She hadnât notified anyone that she would be discharged today.
The doctor smiled disappointedly. âNothing.â
After watching the doctor leave dejectedly, she continued to pack her things.
Suddenly, the door was pushed open with a bang. Caroline turned around and saw Brie charging into the room. Her lackeys followed in behind her. âWhat a lively bunch,â Caroline thought.
âI finally found you, Caroline! You really know how to hide from someone!â
Caroline looked at them coldly.
Sensing that something was about to happen, the patient, nurses, and doctors crowded the door of Carolineâs room, watching the drama.
Brie had been waiting for this moment. Seeing that everyone was there, she walked up to Caroline triumphantly.
She yelled, âYouâre really shameless to steal other peopleâs things and hide here afterward. Even if you and Eddy broke off the engagement, youâre still a member of the Evans family. You should be ashamed for doing such a thing!â
The hospital was abuzz with discussion.
There wasnât a single change in Carolineâs expression. She asked, âAre you pulling a trick out of boredom again, Ms. Collins?â
Brieâs expression shifted. âI canât believe youâre still being stubborn, Caroline. Let me ask you, is the ceramic vase you gave Mr. Morrison Senior really yours?â
âWhy does it matter?â
Brie smirked. âBecause the vase isnât even yours. It belongs to Eddyâs second uncle! You passed off his gift as your own because he didnât attend the birthday banquet! Shame on you!â
The spectators outside the door included many people from wealthy social circles. News about Carolineâs gift had already spread like wildfire among them. Their expressions shifted after hearing that it was a scam.
âI knew it. Thereâs no way a small family like the Evans family can get a ceramic vase.â
âSo, she stole Eddyâs second uncleâs gift?â
âHis second uncle? I heard that heâs very powerful. If he finds out about this, things definitely wonât end well for Caroline â¦â
Remaining silent, Caroline narrowed her eyes, looking coldly at Brie.
Brie had found out that the ceramic vase belonged to Eddyâs second uncle and barged into the hospital to make a big scene so that she could publicly embarrass Caroline.
Brie didnât care if Caroline was disgraced, but she couldnât let Kirkâs reputation be ruined.
Caroline smirked and laughed. âThe fact that heâs willing to give the vase to Grandpa in my name means that heâs fond of me. Are you upset because youâre jealous?â
Carolineâs words struck a nerve, making Brie angry. Brie yelled, âWhat a joke! Why would I be jealous of you? Besides, you canât prove that his second uncle gave it to you voluntarily.â
The lackeys that Brie had brought along began mocking Caroline.
âSheâs just flattering herself. She has the guts to boast like this because she knew Eddyâs second uncle wouldnât attend the birthday banquet.â
The sounds of laughter stopped abruptly. Everyone turned around and saw Jude walking in.
Surrounded by bodyguards. The sight dumbfounded them.
âMr. Morrison Senior, what are you doing here? Ene asked tumedy waking up to hep the oid men Jude didnât even look at Bre. Instead, he accrsachet Cardline anxiously asking. âCame. I heard you conaimed your endte STid were hospitalized. This is such an important matter Why didnât you tell me?
His concem moved Caroline. She reassured him. Iâm ine Grandcase discharged soon.â
Jude looked down at Carolines ankte womed. âAre you sure youâre okay?
Iâm sure!â Caroline briefly walked around. Actually, I didnât need to be hospitalized at all out my mussand was too worded about me she explained, blushing.
When Jude saw this, he laughed and said. âSo thatâs now it is. You realy scared me. Came Then, he turned around and locked at Bre asking. âWhat are you people making a fics about I could hear all of you from afect Brie bit her lic, mustering the courage to explain herself. âMr. Worrison Senior, accidentally discovered that the ceramic vase Carpine gave you didnât belong to her. It belongs to Eddyâs second unce.â
Jude raised an eyebrow. He had a stem expression, devoid of the kindness Ted STown Carpine. âWhat are you trying to say?
Brie explained anxiously. âMr. Morrison Senior, sheâs passing of someone elseâs git as rets. Sheâs a deceitful person. If we donât expose her lies, she wonât change her ways Judeâs expression was as dark as night. He sat down on the couch with Carpineâs reb. He stomped his walking cane to the ground with a loud bang.
