Chapter 817
Bogus Billionaire
Yvonne felt deeply hurt and said, âMrs. Yates Senior, I just wanted to remind you not to be deceived by that woman. How can you label me as uncivilized?â
Betty wasnât swayed by Yvonneâs attempts. âDonât play the victim with me. Carolineâs my special guest, yet youâre being so rude to her. I will take this up with management to make sure they never let you back on this beach.â
Yvonneâs expression changed drastically. She responded, âMrs. Yates Senior, you canât do that. My mom is a stakeholder at this beach as well.â
Betty chuckled and said, âYour mother doesnât own enough shares to call the shots here. Knowing her, I bet she would agree with my decision if she found out what you did.â
Having said her piece, Betty was no longer interested in dragging out her confrontation with Yvonne.
She called out to a nearby staff member and instructed, âGet her out of my sight. I canât stand to look at her anymore.
âYes, maâam.â The staff member immediately signaled to his colleagues and escorted Yvonne away.
After Yvonne left, Betty boarded the cruise ship and noticed Carolineâs pale complexion. Betty assumed that Caroline felt unsettled because of Yvonne.
She quickly went to Carolineâs side and comforted her, saying, âIgnore her. Sheâs my friendâs daughter.
She went missing and was recently found.
âThatâs why my friend dotes on her and spoils her rotten. Now sheâs become a privileged little brat-â
Before Betty could finish her sentence, Caroline collapsed abruptly. Alarmed, Betty hastily reached out to keep Caroline from falling over.
Some of the staff members noticed Betty in distress and rushed over to help. They quickly helped her carry Caroline to bed.
There was a doctor on the cruise ship. The doctor conducted a brief examination of Caroline but couldnât find any issues with her.
Betty had no choice but to call Sean.
Upon hearing that Caroline had unexpectedly fainted, Sean grew anxious. âWerenât you out at sea?
How did she suddenly pass out?â
âIâm just as clueless.â
âTell me everything that has happened in detail since you left home.â
Betty recounted everything without omitting a single detail, even mentioning the interaction with Yvonne.
Sean knew what was wrong after hearing everything.
âItâs most likely because you mentioned Marietta, who had once acknowledged Caroline as her goddaughter. Marietta holds a special place in Carolineâs heart.â
Sean sighed. âUnfortunately, her past seems to haunt her, even though weâre in another country.â
âSo thatâs how it is.â
Betty couldnât help but feel remorseful. âSean, Iâm sorry. Itâs my fault. I should have brought Caroline onto the cruise ship.â
âMom, you didnât mean for this to happen,â Sean reassured her. âOh, and thereâs medicine in Carolineâs bag. Get someone to give it to her. She should regain consciousness after taking it.â
âAlright.â Betty followed Seanâs guidance and gave the medicine to Caroline.
Caroline slowly regained consciousness. However, it seemed like she had no recollection of the earlier events and appeared somewhat confused.
Betty couldnât help but feel a deep sense of empathy. After arranging for some drinks and fruit to be brought to Caroline, she stepped outside and called Sean.
âThis is so heartbreaking. Will she ever get better?â
Sean was aware that his mother was the type to shed tears even over fictional deaths on TV shows.
He replied, âThe doctor mentioned thereâs a slim chance she could regain her memories, but it is unknown how long it would take for her to do so.
âThatâs like saying nothing at all,â Betty responded.
âAnd what about Kirk? Is he still in Easton?â
âYeah, heâs handling things over there. I guess heâll be back once itâs sorted out,â replied Sean.
âDoes he not want to stay there anymore?â
âNow that everything is almost set up, he will probably let his subordinates handle things there.â
