Chapter 848
Bogus Billionaire
âIâll tell you everything.â
âMr. Y.â Carolineâs voice pulled Kirk out of his trance.
He turned to her. âYes, Carrie?â
âYou really donât have to accompany me. Look, the guests keep turning their heads over to look at us.
They probably assume we have something going on.
âIt wouldnât be appropriate for me to go up to them and explain everything.â
If she did that, they would think she was insane.
But not clearing things up bothered Caroline. She felt that they must be speculating about their relationship.
âWhy would you care about what they think? Just focus on your life.â
Caroline hesitated for a second and blurted out, âWhat about you? What do you think of me?â
Kirk was taken aback by her question.
âDo you ⦠Do I look like the person you like?â
Carolineâs words took him by surprise.
âIs that why you used me to replace her?â
Caroline had spent the past few days wondering why Kirk kept coming back to her even when he already liked someone else.
The only plausible explanation was that he had lost her and Caroline looked just like his lover.
Perhaps he wasnât able to let her go, so he was projecting all his affection for her toward Caroline.
Carolineâs heart had sunk when she had arrived at this conclusion.
She suspected that this was somehow connected to how she had lost her memory. Perhaps she had been so heartbroken when she had learned his secret that she had gotten into an accident.
How else would all of this make sense?
She still had all of her memories, except for the ones from the past year. Maybe she had lost all her memories from the time she had met Mr. Y.
The more she thought about it, the more disheartened she felt.
She was aggrieved. How had she ended up becoming somebody elseâs substitute?
Looking at Carolineâs glum expression, Kirk became amused.
He said, âCarrie, youâve never been anybodyâs substitute. You are the only one for me.â
His sincerity moved Caroline.
âThenâ¦â
Kirk tousled Carolineâs hair and said, âIâll say it once again. Stop overthinking. Iâm here with you because I want to. Nobody is getting mad. Once you regain your memory, youâll understand everything Iâve said today.â
He continued, âI wish you would stop worrying about these things. Be happy. Enjoy your life.â
Even though Caroline was still filled with questions, she acquiesced to his request.
For some reason, she couldnât find it in herself to doubt his words whenever she looked at him.
Just then, the gates to the manor opened. A red Ferrari drove in and parked swiftly at its designated spot.
The household staff went up to the car and opened the doors. Two women emerged from the Ferrari.
One of the women looked familiar to Caroline, but she was unable to recall who she was.
Kirk uttered softly into her ear, âSheâs Marietta Weiss.â
The name rang a bell in her head.
She had seen Marietta the other day when she had been at the clinic. It was no wonder she looked so familiar.
âIs she also one of the people I had just met in the past year?â
âYes.â
âHow was our relationship?â Caroline asked.
As she watched Marietta come closer, she felt a surge of affection for her.
Kirk answered, âYou were like mother and daughter.â
