Chapter 93
Bogus Billionaire
After finishing her call, Caroline went to the police station to get her laptop.
âThe laptop has been completely destroyed,â a policeman said. âIâm afraid It canât be fixed.â
Caroline frowned.
There was only a week left before the competitionâs deadline. There wasnât enough time, even if she redrew the design.
After some thought, Caroline still decided to head to a repair shop in the city center.
There, the staff took one look at the laptop and said, âItâs been completely destroyed. Youâd better buy a new one.â
Feeling low, Caroline walked out of the repair shop. After a few steps, she heard someone calling her.
âMs. Evans?â
Caroline looked back to find Sean waving at her by the road.
âWhat are you doing here, Dr. Yates?â Caroline cheered herself up and went over.
âI heard thereâs a restaurant serving authentic local cuisine around here.â Sean fidgeted with his GPS.
âBut I canât seem to find it.â
Caroline moved closer to take a look. She laughed and explained, âItâs in an alley. No wonder you couldnât find it. Let me take you there.â
Sean didnât reject her offer. He parked the car, and they both headed toward the restaurant.
After a lot of walking, they entered a quiet alley. It was so secluded that it didnât seem to belong in the bustling city.
The restaurant was at the end of the alley. The paint on its sign was peeling.
âThis is the one!â Sean was as excited as a kid in a candy store.
Caroline had achieved her goal. âThen Iâll be going now.â
âDonât!â Sean stopped her. âIt was fate that we met. Iâll buy you a meal.â
It was great timing because Sean had something to talk to Caroline about too.
Thinking about her laptop, Caroline didnât have any appetite.
âItâs alright. I still have something to do.â
*One meal wonât delay you too much, right?â Sean had already gone inside and asked for a table for two.
The restaurant was well maintained. However, there werenât many customers at this hour.
A waiter brought the menu over, and Sean let Caroline order first, like a true gentleman.
Caroline ordered some of the chefâs recommendations, and Sean ordered a few more. Then, the waiter left.
Once the waiter was gone, Sean asked. âI saw you walk out of the repair shop. Are you fixing up your laptop?â
âYes.â
âMay I have a look at it?â
Caroline handed her laptop over to him.
Sean gave it a few looks and tutted. âHow did it end up this way?â
Caroline didnât respond.
Sean continued, âBut thatâs alright. Even if itâs in this state, Kirk can get it fixed for you.â
Caroline wasnât hopeful. âThe repair shop said it couldnât be fixed.â
âThatâs their opinion.â When Sean brought up Kirk, he was very animated. âLeave it to Kirk. He can save anything.â
