Wife 11
The Cherished Wife
Chapter 11
Sebastian caught on to what Charles was hinting at almost Instantly. His face tensed for a split
second before he regained his composure. âNoelle just got back from a trip, so sheâs still mixing up
timezones! Hey, Charles, you might as well stay for inner since youâre here.â
He waved May over. âWe need some groceries, May. Noelle and Charles are both dining in tonight,
so make it snappy!â Sebastian handed her a wad of bills.
May had been with the family long enough to read between the lines. With a knowing squint, she
grabbed the cash and headed out the door. âYou three have a good chat.â
Seizing the moment while Sebastian was busy giving May instructions, Noelleâs gaze fixed on
Charles. How on earth did Charles know her granddad?
Charlesâs eyes, which were sharp and narrow, met Noelleâs with a lightâhearted laugh. âMs. Shaw,
you look like youâve seen a ghost.â
âGive me a break. Arenât you the least bit shocked? Youâre really my granddadâs student?â Noelleâs
skepticism was palpable. After all, Charles was no regular Joe.
With a quirk of his eyebrow, Charles played it cool. âDo you think I would lie to you about your
granddad?â he asked, leaving Noelle biting her lip and at a loss for words.
Sebastianâs eyes, deep and dark, sparkled with cunning glee as he glanced between Charles and
Noelle. âCharles, meet Noelle, the girl Iâm always talking about. Sheâs been a star student since she
was a kid, and now sheâs all grown up and killing it as a company director.â
Sebastian laid it on thick, praising Noelle like a street vendor hyping up his best goods. Charles
played along, nodding seriously. He snuck peeks at Noelle, making her feel like she was under a
spotlight.
âOkay, you kids have a chat. Iâm off to the study. Sebastian said, giving Noelleâs hand a reassuring
pat. âNoelle, be a dear and look after Charles for your grandpa, wonât you?â
Before Noelle could even think of bailing, Sebastian was out of the room. She tried to follow, but
Charles sat down, looking as cool as a cucumber. With a sigh, she sat back down. âMr. Hoffman,
which year were you in my grandpaâs class? Iâve never heard him mention you before.â
Charles squinted a bit. âReally? He talked about you all the time!â he claimed, standing up. and
inching closer, which sent Noelle scooting back with her eyes wide. âBack off!â
âMs. Shaw, you say you donât know me, huh? Well, letâs fix that. Getting closer should help,â
Charles teased with a chuckle, his breath tickling Noelleâs ear. âWe canât disappoint your grandpa,
can we?â
âYouâ¦â Noelleâs cheeks turned a bright shade of pink, a clear sign of her mortification. She would
be the biggest fool in the world if she had not already figured out why her grandpa
