Chapter 159
The Cherished Wife
Chapter 159
âNo, heâs not some kind of wild man,â Noelle said without thinking. After catching a glimpse of
Xavierâs face, she took a deep breath. âXavier, this is the last time Iâm going to say thisâstop doing
things that gross me out.â
She reached out and peeled Xavierâs fingers away one by one. âWe really should keep our distance
at work!â
âNoelle!â
Xavier watched Noelle walk away. Feeling frustrated, he punched the elevator door, startling the
nearby employees. âMr. Harris!â
âWhat are you doing here?â
Josephâs voice came from behind Xavier, making him panic. âDad!â
Joseph gave Xavier a fierce look. âHow many times do I have to tell you to behave at the company?
Youâre engaged to Winter, so leave Noelle alone!â Joseph was so disappointed with his son,
wishing he could just shape up. âYou need to know what you really want!â
Xavier scowled. âBut Dad, Noelle and I really love each other.â
He did not want to be with Winter. He just wanted her shares and the company. Even though he
was attracted to Winter, he did not love her.
âLove? Thereâs nothing in this world that canât be bought with money. Wait until you get your hands
on the shares and then youâll see that Iâm right,â Joseph said with a hard stare at Xavier. âJust look
at yourself. Iâm warning you, if I catch you mixed up with Noelle again, youâll be sorry.â
Xavier mumbled, âI got it.â
âThis is a crucial time for the company. Thereâs some trouble at Collosus Group. Go find out whatâs
happening.â
âYes!â
After Noelle got away from Xavier in the elevator, she was feeling all kinds of uncomfortable. When
she saw Jadeâs name on her ringing phone, her mood went from bad to worse.
She watched the phone light up and go dark over and over until finally, with a sigh, she picked up.
Jadeâs voice came through sharp and clear, âWhatâs with you? Why havenât you been answering?â
Jade sounded really upset. Noelle knew all too well how Jade felt about her, but it still hurt. She just
could not figure out why Jade was so nice to Winter but treated her like she was the enemy even
though they were both her kids.
Noelle nibbled on her lip and let out a silent, sad chuckle. âI was busy at work and didnât hear the
phone. Do you need me for something, Mom?â
No matter how upset she was, Jade was the woman who had brought her into the world and cared
for her. Noelle could not forget that, even if she was angry

Jade just huffed, âIs your job more important than your own mother? It seems like youâre not taking
me seriously anymore,â
Noelle mumbled, âThatâs not true, Mom. I was really working. Is there something you were?
Jade snapped, âDo I need a reason to call my daughter? Look at yourself. Iâm your mom. You
should be the one coming to me, not the other way around. Youâre acting too big for your bootsâ
Jadeâs words were sharp and mean, not at all how a mother should talk to her child,
No matter how much it hurt, Noelle could not talk back to Jade, She could only say, âWorkâs been
really busy lately, I-â
âBusy, busy, busy. Thatâs all I hear. Your sisterâs a big star. Are you busier than her? Youâre being
disrespectful. She always makes time to visit me and calls to check on me. What about you?
âYou moved out, and now, you wonât even come home, How did I end up with someone as coldâ
hearted as you?â
