Wife 24
The Cherished Wife
Chapter 24
A glint flashed in Charlesâ eyes as his gaze landed on Hoelleâs face. He had noticed how much she
liked it, but what she said sounded like the completely opposite of what she felt!
His gaze traveled across her face as he said, âAlright, then. What about something from Edgar
Degas? Or perhaps this fountain pen?â
Charles recommended several items to Hoelle, and she decided to purchase the pen. Samuel
enjoyed calligraphy, and he was good at it too. Gifting him a pen seemed like a smart move, and it
was probably the least expensive of all the antiques she had looked at today.
Noelle might be working as a departmental director now, but she was still young and had spent
plenty of her savings when she moved out. Moreover, her current situation with Xaner had further
convinced her there was no one she could depend on other than herself.
She had to save up to pay for a house and a car. Even if she did not have a man, she still had
herself!
Charles could guess the thoughts running through Noelleâs mind. After she decided, he called
Ronald and Mr. Quinn into the roorn and said, âWrap this up for Ms. Shaw!â
Mr. Quinn was stunned when he saw what Charles was pointing at. âUmâ¦â
âIs something wrong?â Noelle asked when she saw the look on Mr. Quinnâs face. âMoney isnât a
problem.â
Mr. Quinn drew in a long breath, a glum look on his face as he said, âNo, no. Iâll have it wrapped up
immediately if thatâs what youâve taken fancy to, Ms. Shaw Mr. Quinn said as he gave Charles
another look.
However, Charles did not even seem to care. His gaze had never left Hoelle. Mr. Quinn shrugged
as he took the fountain pen and handed it to an employee,
Then, Noelle realized she had not asked how much the pen would cost. âOh, Mr. Quinn! How much
does the pen cost?â
Mr. Quinn was about to answer when he caught sight of Charlos giving him a sharp look. He felt his
heart skip a beat as he chuckled and said, âItâs not too expensive.â
Charles looked away from Mr. Quinn and walked over to Noelle. He stood by her and lowered his
gaze to look at her, making her feel oddly pressured. âLet Ronald deal with the bill,â cald in a voice
that sounded is clear and soothing as a breeze. âMs. Shaw, what will you do for me in return for the
favor I just did you?â
Noelle was speechless. She turned to look at Charles and realized he was gazing at her
intently. He did not seem like he was joking, and she could feel the stress mounting. âHow about I
treat you to dinner?â

Charles chuckled again. âWell, since you insist, might as well accept your offer, Ms. Shaw,â he said
as he left the room.
Noelle was stunned, and she had a nagging feeling that something was off. Had she been very
insistent? âI havenât paid yet, Mr. Hoffman!â
âYou should leave with Mr. Hoffman, Ms. Shaw, Iâll take care of the bill and help him pick out some
antiques too!â Ronald said.
âWellâ¦â Noelle hesitated.
âIâll have your present delivered to you!â
Given everything Ronald had just said, Noelle thought it would be inappropriate if she said anything
more. Thus, she conceded and hurried after Charles dazedly.
Ronald waited until Noelle had left before he turned and said to Mr. Quinn, âPlease put away the
items Mr. Harrison has requested. As for Ms. Shawâs purchase, feel free to name a price.
Everything else can be put on Mr. Hoffmanâs tab.â
Ronald thought he was doing a pretty good job at being Charlesâ assistant, given he even knew the
exact thoughts running through Charlesâ mind.
âWellâ¦â Mr. Quinn hesitated, âThat pen isâ¦â Mr. Quinn thought about it for a minute before he
looked at Ronald and asked, âWhat is Ms. Shawâs relationship to Mr. Harrison?â That pen was very
expensive!
An odd look appeared in Ronaldâs eyes as he chuckled and said, âDonât ask questions you arenât
supposed to know the answers to. Since when did you earn the right to probe into Mr. Harrisonâs
private matters? Hurry, pack everything up!â
