Chapter 240
The Cherished Wife
Chapter 240
âYou forgot to bring it?â Ronaldâs expression turned gloomy, but after a moment of contemplation, he
waved his hand.
âMs. Clark, please give the script to Ms. Shaw.â Ronaldâs tone sounded troubled as he continued to
address Winter, âMs. Shaw, Mr. Hoffman places great importance on this project and has invested a
significant amount of money. If I donât handle this well, itâll be difficult to explain.â
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Winter felt even more embarrassed. She could not help but
blame her agent for mishandling things. âYes, this was our mistake. I promise it wonât happen again.
Please give
me half an hour. Iâll-â
âAlright,â Ronald cut her off while massaging his temples. âPlease hurry, Ms. Shaw. Mr. Hoffman has
other matters that need my attention.â
âOkay!â Winter was now feeling increasingly flustered, finding it hard to concentrate and memorize
her lines. Her mind was cluttered with anxious thoughts.
She shot her agent an angry glare. Her agent was equally stressed and began to sweat profusely.
At that moment, Ronald received a phone call, and his expression became grave. âMs. Shaw, I must
leave now. As for the matters hereâ¦â Ronald looked at Ruby and continued, âMs. Clark will oversee
the rest. Please take good care of Ms. Shaw.â
âYes, Mr. Wells,â Ruby responded. She was frustrated with the situation but had to carry out her
orders,
regardless.
Winter was relieved to hear that Ronald was leaving: She forced a polite smile. âMr. Wells, I
apologize for todayâs inconvenience-â
âEnough, Ms. Shaw. Discuss it with Ms. Clark. I really need to go. Mr. Hoffman is waiting for me.â
Ronald waved dismissively, clearly displeased with Winter.
Winter was internally fuming after hearing this but outwardly maintained a stiff smile.
Watching Ronald leave, she finally breathed a sigh of relief. Turning to Ruby, she asked, âMs. Clark,
what do you think?â
âMr. Wells may not have time, but I do. Take your time, Ms. Shaw. Iâll stay here and wait for you,â
Ruby replied, her tone suggesting she had all the time in the world as she settled in to wait for
Winter.
Noelle frowned as she watched through the monitor. She was surprised by Winterâs behavior. âIâve
never seen her like this before,â she said in astonishment.
Charles smiled while turning off the video. âFeeling reflective?â
Noelle nodded. âI feel like I was foolish before.â She realized that sometimes, peopleâs dislike of her
was baseless, and trying to please everyone was futile. Watching Winterâs behavior earlier
reinforced this realization.
âYou brought me here today just to watch her performance?â Noelle asked.
Charles smiled as he beckoned her over. Though puzzled, Noelle still approached him. Suddenly,
he pulled her onto his lap, causing her to gasp in surprise. She glared at him. âWhat are you doing?
Let go!â

Chuckling, he rested his chin on her shoulder and nuzzled closer to her. âDonât move. Let me hold
you for
a while.â
Noelle felt resigned, so she just let Charles embrace her. After a while, they heard a knock on the
door. âIs it Mr. Wells?â
