Chapter 274
The Cherished Wife
Joseph Harris had always been a crafty, calculating man. He had been planning this for so long,
and there was no way he would allow things to fail in the final stages.
Charles smirked. âSo, Joseph must be thinking about how he can get Xavier and Winter to get
married as soon as possible. He wonât have anything to worry about once theyâre married.â Charles
patted Noelleâs hand as he said, âXavierâs smart, but heâs not very charismatic, and would never
dare go against Joseph. So, heâll inevitably go down that path.â
âYou thought of everything.â Noelle sighed, thinking to herself how exhausting all this thinking must
be.
Charles noticed the change in Noelleâs mood and took her hand in his as he lowered his head so
their foreheads were touching. âWe canât control what others do, but we can at least live our lives
the way we want to. Donât you think so?â
Noelle chuckled as she nodded. âYes, I know that. Donât worry. Iâve set clear boundaries with them,
and I know what I should do moving forward. I wonât let them bully me.â
Noelle also knew that they saw her as an easy target because she used to be too soft and never
showed her desire for anything. However, they must have forgotten that the only reason she never
fought back was because she could not care less. Since they were no longer showing any
consideration for her and treating her however they liked, she would not foolishly allow them to
continue bullying her.
âItâs getting late. Letâs go to bed!â Charles kissed the corner of Noelleâs lips and held her in his arms
as they lay in bed. âGood night!â
âGood night!â Noelle grabbed Charlesâ hand and buried her face in the space between his neck and
shoulders.

Somehow, Winter managed to learn about what Xavier had done. She smashed all the vases at
home in a fury before declaring she was going to seek revenge on Noelle. Thankfully, Jade stopped
her in time.â Gosh, child, canât you hold yourself together?!â
âBut, Mom, you heard it too. Xavier went to see Noelle. Heâ¦â
âSo what if he did?â Jade sneered. âDo you think that bitch could marry Xavier? Joseph and Emilia
would never allow that to happen. Donât worry. Iâve invited your future motherâinâlaw over for tea so
we can discuss your wedding!â
âReally?â Winterâs eyes lit up. âWhat did she say?â Winter grasped Jadeâs hands in hers. âHas she
agreed?â
âIs there anything your mom canât handle? I could already tell from the way she sounded over the
phone yesterday. She canât wait for Xavier to marry you!â
Jade spoke confidently. âCome help me pick out an outfit. Iâm going to meet your motherâinâlaw
later.â
âMom!â Winter tugged on Jadeâs sleeve. âWe arenât even married yet!â
âisnât it already a done deal? Join me today,â Jade said as she gave Winter a onceâover. âMy darling
Winter is so beautiful. Is there a man who wouldnât fall for you?â
Jade and Emilia had arranged to meet at Homestyle Garden House.
Jade was a rather crass person, but she had learned to imitate the strict manners of upper society.
Her father, Sebastian Jenkins, was a university lecturer, so the Jenkins family was considered part
of high society.
Thus, Jade put on the airs of a refined lady who meticulously adhered to formalities before others
and naturally gravitated toward places that seemed cultured and refined.
Emilia was a typical housewife, but she had been born into a noble family, so she had quite
extensive knowledge of the art of tea. Her impression of Jade became even better when she saw
the name of the place she had been invited to.
