Chapter 280

The Cherished Wife

“Pfft!” Noelle could not help but laugh. “Do you think Grandpa will buy that?” Noelle gave Charles a

once- over before adding, “You don’t seem like the kind to pester someone!”

Charles raised an eyebrow as he reached out to tap her on the nose. “That might not necessarily be

the case!”

Noelle smacked his hand out of the way. “Hmph, then I’ll say that tomorrow, and we’ll see whether

Grandpa believes you or not.” After giving it some thought, Noelle realized it truly was the only

explanation they could give.

“Love is something that’s difficult to explain,” he said as he toyed with her hand. “Alright, let’s not

discuss this any further. Where did you go today?”

Since Charles brought that up, Noelle was reminded of something that had happened. “I wasn’t

expecting your predictions to be so accurate.”

“Oh?”

Charles led Noelle into their bedroom and began taking off his jacket. When he heard what Noelle

said, he put his jacket down and motioned for her to continue.

She bit down on her lip as she picked up his jacket so that she could hang it up. “I went to the

garden house today because Teresa wanted me to take a look at the account statements, and she

mentioned that my mother and Winter were at the garden house as well!”

“What were they doing at the garden house?” Charles asked, his eyebrows furrowing together.

“Were they there to cause you trouble?”

Noelle shook her head. “They don’t know I own the garden house.”

Charles nodded. “Now that you mention it, that’s true! Then, why were they there?”

“They were there to talk to Xavier’s mom about his and Winter’s wedding!” Noelle replied, and when

she noticed that Charles merely nodded in response without showing any signs of surprise, she

asked, “You had guessed it already, hadn’t you?”

She was not surprised when Charles nodded. “You know as well the plan that Joseph is hatching,

and there’s no way he would let this opportunity slip through his fingers,” Charles said as he gave

Noelle a long, meaningful look.

Noelle nodded. There was a stunned look on her face as she asked, “So, Xavier went to kick up

that fuss at my apartment previously because of his marriage to Winter as well?”

She bit down on her lip, and after giving it some thought, she added, “His attitude toward me

changed after learning that Grandpa transferred ownership of the stocks to me. He said some really

weird stuff as well!”

“He wanted to get back with you? Did he say that his relationship with Winter was all for show, and

he only did it for the shares she owned?” Charles asked softly, his voice tinged with disdain.

Noelle was not at all surprised that Charles knew that. After all, given how smart he was, it would

not be difficult for him to arrive at those answers.

“Yes, that’s what he said. But I just don’t understand why he thinks I would forgive him after he lied

to me and betrayed me. I’m not stupid!”

Charles scoffed. “That’s true, you’re not stupid. He’s the one who’s an idiot.”

It was not difficult to discern the disdain Charles held toward Xavier. He truly had no respect for him.

Noelle knew the sort of ploy Xavier was trying to hatch, and Charles had an even better

understanding of it. Perhaps Xavier genuinely once had feelings for Noelle, but since he had

abandoned her once because of material belongings, there was no way he was trying to get back

with her now because of true love.

She chuckled. “Let’s not talk about him anymore. But the fact that he and Winter are getting married

might be beneficial for me!”

Noelle was no longer the old version of herself. She would not cry over the fact that Xavier and

Winter were getting married. Now, she was only thinking about how Xavier would stop bothering her

all the time because he was marrying Winter.

Meanwhile, she could not care less about the going–ons of his relationship with Winter.

“I’m glad that’s the way you’re viewing it!” Charles ruffled Noelle’s long hair. “Shall we go out for

dinner today?”
