Chapter 285
The Cherished Wife
Seeing Charles nod, Noelle understood. She then glanced at lanâs reaction and raised an eyebrow,
saying, âSo, Curio Corner is actually yours?â
Charles laughed and gestured for Ronald and lan to leave. After they left, he opened the painting
and examined it. âIs it very strange?â
Noelle pursed her lips and gave Charles a sideways glance. âSo, the gift you gave my grandfather
before was another one of your tricks?â Noelle could not quite describe her feelings; she was not
exactly angry.
Seeing that Charles seemed completely unbothered, she could not muster any real anger and
simply asked, âWhy arenât you saying anything?â
Charles gave her a meaningful look. His long fingers brushed over the painting as he tapped it. âYou
walked into the shop yourself. I was planning to find another way, but you ended up going to Curio
Corner. âCharles chuckled.
âIâve never minded what means I use, as long as the result is good.â His eyes, which were filled with
light, fell on Noelle. They were sparkling.
Noelleâs face turned red, but she could not say anything. She could only lower her head and
continue eating.
The next day, they were to visit Sebastian. Noelle got up early, thinking that besides the antique
painting, she should also bring some gifts for her grandfather. However, Charles said it was not
necessary.
Noelle insisted, so she began making stew early in the morning.
At the Jones household, Sebastian had already instructed May that Noelle would come over today
and bring her new husband. May had always served Sebastian and had never heard about Noelle
getting married, so she was initially shocked.
Once she understood, she went out early to buy groceries and then busied herself in the kitchen.
May had watched Noelle grow up. Although the Shaw family had two children, May had never liked
Winter. Whenever Jade brought Winter over, their concern for Sebastian was only superficial.
Though a maid, May held a high status in the Jones family. She had watched Jade grow up and
never thought highly of her. But May genuinely liked Noelle from the bottom of her heart.
As she got busy in the kitchen, May glanced out and saw Sebastian reading the newspaper in the
living room. He seemed distracted, constantly glancing at the front door.
Seeing May, Sebastian quickly looked away. He saw her smile and could not help but glare. âArenât
you supposed to be very busy in the kitchen?â
âRight away!â May wiped her hands just as the doorbell rang. She saw Sebastian about to get up
but then sat back down. âHurry and open the door!â
May quickly went to open the door, thinking to herself how particularly fussy the old man was today.
