Chapter 286
The Cherished Wife
Chapter 286
âPlease come in!â Mayâs eyes shone with satisfaction, which made Noelle happy as well. However,
she remembered that her grandfather seemed somewhat displeased about their marriage.
She glanced at Charles, intending to pull her hand away from his, but Charles held on firmly.
May saw this and felt genuinely happy. âMs. Noelle, why donât you and your husband go and have a
chat with Sir Jones? He often talks about you when youâre not around. Iâll go make your favorite
casserole.â
âReally? The seafood casserole?â Noelleâs eyes sparkled. âThank you, May!â
Charles handed Noelle a pair of shoes to change into, then changed his own. After that, he led her
into the living room while holding her hand.
Sebastian had already heard their conversation and was eagerly waiting for them. However, when
they finally came in, he pretended to be reading the newspaper. In fact, he was not actually reading
a single word.
Holding Charlesâ hand, Noelle saw her grandfather pretending to read the newspaper while actually
looking at them. His demeanor made Noelle almost laugh.
Sebastian squinted his eyes. Upon noticing Noelleâs expression, he huffed. Noelle let go of Charlesâ
hand and went over to her grandfather. âGrandpa, Iâm back!â
âHmph! You still remember the way home?â Sebastian said, glancing at Charles. Charles stood
there, unphased. He was holding a gift box, still exuding confidence.
Sebastian felt quite satisfied but still showed displeasure on his face. âYoung man, youâre quite
impressive!â
âGrandpa!â Charles smiled, but Sebastian snorted coldly.
âI think I donât deserve to be called that by you!â
Charles understood immediately that the old man was upset about him quietly marrying his
granddaughter. âOf course, you do.â
Sebastian turned his head away. Noelle, feeling anxious, glared at Charles and hurried to comfort
her grandfather, âGrandpa, please donât be angry. Itâs all my fault. It was my idea not to tell you
about marrying Charles.â
âHmm?â Sebastian looked suspicious. âDonât try to cover for him. I know this brat too well.â
âItâs the truth!â Feeling guilty, Noelle clung to Sebastianâs arm and shook it gently. âIt really was my
fault. When Charles and I got our marriage certificate, he wanted to tell everyone, but I wouldnât let
him.â
Noelle glanced at Charles, who said, âGrandpa, itâs not Noelleâs fault. Itâs mine.â
âHmph, of course, I knew it was you! I only have one precious granddaughter, and you quietly took
her away.â Sebastian was not really angry but was still displeased about being kept in the dark. He
felt he needed to show some dissatisfaction.
Noelle felt a headache coming on and bit her lip. âOur marriage was very sudden, and I wasnât
prepared to tell you yet. We planned to tell you later, but you found out so suddenlyâ¦â
Before Noelle could finish, Charles took her hand and gently patted it. âDidnât you make stew for
Grandpa?
Charles said. âWhy donât you take it to May?â
Noelle wanted to say more, but when she saw Charlesâ expression, she let it go.
Charles nodded slightly, and Noelle understood that he wanted to speak with her grandfather alone.
