Chapter 28
Love The Game
As we walked into the school I couldn't help myself. I wrapped my arm around Sara's waist and pulled her close to me. She just leaned into me and smiled. Walking through the halls I saw some looks from people but I just gave them dirtier looks. I walked her to all her classes even though it made me late. The only teacher who didn't yell at me was Mrs. Evans and thats only because she loved me. After class Ollie walked with me and Sara to the gym.
"All I'm saying is that Sara could probably kick your ass if she needed too, so you better behave yourself." He said waving his finger at me.
"It wont come to that, I'll keep her in line." Sara said with that little smirk that drove me insane.
"How am I already in trouble? I haven't even done anything." I said faking a pout. Sara just looked at me and smiled. I just grabbed her hand and held it. I couldn't explain it but I liked having Sara to myself. I liked being able to be all over her and not care who thought what. Ollie just gave me a look.
"So where are you taking Kara for your date?" I asked. At this his face got kind of red.
"I was thinking a stereotype date. Dinner and a movie. What do you guys think." He asked. Sara and I just looked at each other.
"It sounds great." I smiled.

I hadn't talked to Kris since the game on Tuesday. It was Friday, but since we had a bi week we didn't have a game tonight. Since we didn't have a game Braddock let us out at 4 when school was over. In the locker room I saw Kris check her phone about twenty times. She had this look on her face that I didn't like. I knew she wasn't okay. I could feel it. I caught Sara looking at me.
"What?" I asked.
"Just go see if she's okay." She said giving me a little nod as she said it. I just gave her a kiss on the cheek and walked over to Kris.
"Are you okay?" I asked her as she put her shoes on.
"Not really." She didn't look up at me. I sat on the bench in front of her and waited.
"Mack and I got into another fight. She said I'm not there enough and that I act like I don't give a shit about her. The same old stuff. I just I don't know what to do anymore."
She just put her feet on the ground and stared at the lockers. By now everyone had cleared out. I looked over my shoulder to see Sara walking out. She gave me a signal that said she'd wait outside. I turned my attention back to Kris.
"Kris I don't know why you stay with her. You're obviously not happy." I said with ad eyes.
"I know I seem crazy and I know she puts me through hell. But when we're not fighting and everything is okay its more than okay, its amazing. I do love her Avery. God Avery I'm sorry. You don't want to be hearing about my problems. You probably hate me. Avery I'm so sorry."
She just put her head in her hands that were resting on her knees. I took a deep breath before I said anything. She had done some really shitty things to me, but she was still my best friend. And I loved her no matter what. She looked up at me and the look on her face killed me. Instead of saying anything I just hugged her. When I pulled back I said,
"Look what you did was dirty, but I forgive you because you're still my best friend." By now she was crying.
"I'm sorry Avery. I'm sorry I messed everything up with Sara." At this I just laughed. She must have been so in her head she didn't see me and Sara.
"Whats so funny?" She asked
"You don't pay attention." I laughed. She just gave me a confused look.
"Me and Sara are fine. We're kind of dating." I could feel my cheeks turning red.
"What do you mean kinda?" She asked
"I haven't actually asked her, like officially." I smiled.
"Well I'm glad you're happy Avery." It sounded weird hearing her say my full name. Her and Sara always called me Ave. And it felt weird otherwise.
"Stop calling my Avery. You always call me Ave. It's weird when you don't." She just laughed. We stayed in the locker room talking for another 10 minutes. When we finally left Sara was waiting outside on the stairs for us. I picked up her back pack and carried it for her.
"Hi Kris." Sara said somewhat sincerely.
"Hey Sara." Kris said back.
"Alright well I'll see you guys later." Kris said as she walked to her car. As Kris drove away Sara turned to me and said,
"So how did that go?" Sara asked as we got into my car.
"Good." I said. I explained everything as I drove to Sara's house. The plan was to drop Sara off at her house so she could shower and change and would go home and do the same then I'd pick her up and we'd decide what to do later. What Sara didn't know was that I had a plan.
