Chapter 1399
My Wife is a Hacker
âIt seems to me that Iâve really overestimated Joyce McCarthy.â
The man under her feet attempted to sweep her leg off from under her in a hasty move, but she kicked his syringe away and proceeded to stomp on his other hand, crushing it hard under her heels.
âSince Joyce had sent you here, you must be one of her most loyal lackeys. Well, donât think of going back to her anymore. Youâre staying here,â Nicole sneered.
Keep dreaming!â The man immediately retorted.
However, as soon as he had uttered those words, the door of the ward suddenly swung open, revealing Martin, who soon walked in with a group of policemen. They then picked the man up and cuffed him.
âDamn it, it was a trap!â The man bellowed, feeling a mix of astonishment and fear. âThis b**** is so devious that Ms. Jo might not be her match!â
âOf course, itâs a trap, do you really think Iâm hurt?â Nicole sneered, her eyes dark and bloodthirsty.
Martin shuddered the instant he noted Nicoleâs gaze. âNow I understand why she wanted me to fake her wounds. It was to lure them out!â
âTake him away, and wait for his master to show up.â
As the man had been neutralized, Joyce McCarthy would definitely show up sooner or later.
The manâs eyes betrayed his sense of defeat and resignation. He could only allow himself to be dragged away by the police. Martin watched as the man was being taken away, and breathed a sigh of relief.
âThis feels way too satisfying. If I was late, what would have happened to you?â he asked.
âBased on what you just saw, does it look like heâd be able to hurt me?â Nicole asked and flashed him a cheeky smile.
Martin was left speechless for a moment there, âIt is no doubt that the average Jane wouldnât be able to do what she has done.â
âHowever, my goal has yet to be achieved. That perpetrator has yet to show up. I guess I have to wait until tomorrow.â Nicole sighed, and proceeded to lie down in peace before yawning.
Martin looked at Nicole and guessed, âIs the person youâre referring to Joyce McCarthy?â
Martin was aware that all the attempts on Nicoleâs life had all started following Joyce McCarthyâs return to the country.
Nicole nodded, knowing that Martin and Joyce were once good friends.
âWhy? Are you sad that youâve had to part ways with her?â Nicole asked in a low voice.
âWhat are you talking about? Weâve long become strangers.â Martin immediately shook his head.
He had already known the true colors of Joyce McCarthy, but what he did not expect was her unwillingness to let go of Nicole, and since then, he had found it hard to accept what she had done to Nicole. âWhy does she keep targeting Nicole?â
âThatâs good. This time⦠I wonât let her get away again.â
âIf someone like Joyce isnât brought to justice, Nicole would not stop,â he thought.
âYeah, I know itâs because she despises you,â Martin sighed, growing ever more worried about Nicole.
âItâs okay,â she said. âIâm not afraid of anything she has to throw at me. Thank you for saving my a**
today. You can go home and catch some rest. You still have work tomorrow.â
âBut what about you tonight?â he asked.
âDonât jinx it. Her lackeys wonât be able to make it back in time, and she wonât be able to make another move against me for a while. Oh yeah, can you help spread the news for me? That youâve caught the person who almost got me killed?â
Martin was taken aback for a moment, before registering Nicoleâs intentions.
âYeah, sure,â he murmured, nodding his head. âAnyway, get some sleep. Iâll be leaving now.â
âOkay.â Nicole nodded, rolling over, before finally falling asleep.
Martin sighed, after which he turned around and left.
As of now, his determination had become ever more evident. âI must protect Nicole and prevent her from getting hurt again!â
Nicole woke up early in the morning to find that someone was staring at her. Without knowing it, she looked over and saw that Jared had arrived.
âAre you awake?â
The corner of Jaredâs lips lifted, but there were hints of suspicion in his eyes.
âYeahâ¦,â Nicole uttered weakly.
âYou can talk now?â Jared could not help but heave a sigh of relief.
Nicole noted the look of distress on his face. âHe must be feeling stressed again.â
Then, she sighed and nodded. âIâm fineâ¦â
