Chapter 2362
My Wife is a Hacker
Nicole could not help but roll her eyes mentally. It was obvious that this had become a subtle competition between Lawrence and Jared.
âIt was just an accident, and Iâm fine now,â Nicole said, feigning calmness.
She did not wish to tell Lawrence much about Snow, so she resorted to giving him a brief explanation instead.
Lawrence then glanced at Nicole, whose complexion seemed healthy enough.
He had been genuinely worried about her after he had learned about her accident, so he advised Nicole, âEven if it was an accident, you should be more careful in the future.â
âYeah,â Nicole agreed, wanting to end this conversation quickly.
âShe needs rest. If thatâs everything, you may leave now, Mr. Royce.â Jared said, having decided to be more assertive in shooing him away when he noticed Lawrenceâs persistent fussing over Nicoleâs condition.
Naturally, those words displeased Lawrence, whose face darkened. âMr. Johnston? Your attitude toward your friends leaves much to be desired.â
âYour attitude toward patients also betrays your lack of consideration for them,â Jared retorted, not thinking he was wrong.
He was implying that Lawrenceâs visit was more than seen them, leaving was the proper thing to do, as the patient needed rest.
Seeing that the two would quarrel anytime, Nicole looked at Lawrence and said, âLeo, Iâm really fine.
Iâm tired too.â
Lawrenceâs expression stiffened slightly, and he could only issue a silent sigh in the end. âAlright.â
He knew that although Nicole had claimed that she was fine, it was still not a minor accident.
âRest well. Iâll come to see you tomorrow,â Lawrence advised, and left thereafter.
After Lawrence had exited the room, Nicole playfully scolded Jared, âYour attitude toward guests is also far from commendable.â
Jared seemed to be on edge whenever Lawrence was around, and usually situations in which they were both together would culminate either in Jared giving him a cold shoulder or asking him to leave.
âIt seems to me that he doesnât consider himself as a mere guest,â Jared said indifferently, not seeing anything wrong with his behavior.
Nicole could not help but shake her head in exasperation. She did not want to argue with him about Lawrence anymore.
âNow, rest up,â he said.
Since Lawrence had left, there was no need to discuss him anymore, so he helped Nicole lie down.
Nicole smiled warmly as she stared at the worried look on Jaredâs face. âDonât worry, Iâm really okay.â
âYou still have to recover.â Jaredâs face shifted to a serious, unsmiling expression as he asked Nicole to get some proper rest.
âOkay, Iâll get some shuteye.â Nicole agreed, getting a warm, fuzzy feeling in her heart as she knew that Jared was genuinely concerned about her.
Jared sat by the bedside, watching her until she fell asleep peacefully. Then, his gaze deepened slightly.
Although the car accident was unexpected, he knew she could have in the past. At the very least, she would not have been injured. Unfortunatelyâ¦
This had led to many questions which had still been unanswered. What had happened back then? Who in San Joto wanted her dead so badly that she would face such dangers as soon as she arrived? Who could possibly be more well-informed than Jared himself?
Meanwhile, outside the hospital, Lawrence continued to linger around even after he had gotten into the car.
He waited until the lights in the hospital room went off before he coldly uttered, âDrive.â
âMr. Lawrence, is Niki in serious condition?â Ian asked softly. âWhy did Mr. Royce stay in the car for so long? He had just been staring at her room like that.â
Lawrence glanced at Ian. The name âNikiâ was one he had given to her. Hearing that name now, it felt as if it had been a long, longtime ago.
âSheâs fine,â Lawrence said in a low voice. âLetâs call her Nicole from now on.â
âYeah. I slipped and called her that earlier because I was too worried,â Ian replied.
He was used to calling her Niki, so it was a little difficult for him to switch all of a sudden.
After a pause, Ian added, âI found out that the accident was Snowâs idea of exacting revenge. She is the daughter of the Riddle familyâs second son, and she has been arrested.â
Lawrence squinted. He knew things were not that simple, so he had sent Ian out to investigate.
However, he was not exDectina a result of this sort.
