Chapter 2844
My Wife is a Hacker
MY WIFE IS A HACKER CHAPTER 2844-âDad, donât you think itâs still a little too early to appoint a successor?â Daniel advised. âI mean, you can still decide on it a few years later.â
Hearing that, Karen stepped in and echoed, âDaniel is right. Thereâs no need to rush into this, Dad.â
However, Benjamin, who was not keen on being persuaded, waved his hand and insisted, âIâm old now.
Canât you let your old man enjoy a peaceful retirement? Anyway, it is set. Sean will be the one making all the decisions regarding the family business in the future.â
Seeing that Benjamin had already made his mind, everyone relented, though not without hesitation.
âDaniel, Dad doesnât want to manage the family affairs anymore. He just wants to enjoy his retirement.
Personally, I think itâs fine for him to decide who to appoint and announce it now,â Dexter butted in.
After all, they would just be delaying the inevitable if they stalled the announcement for a few more years, so it was ideal to just let Benjamin pass the torch to someone else and enjoy his peace of mind.
âYouâre right. Dexter. Letâs just go along with Dadâs arrangement,â Dillion concurred.
Benjamin was already dead set on what he wanted from the very beginning.
The announcement he just made was a statement, not a call for discussion. In addition, Nicole was around, and because she had agreed to let Sean take on the role of the head of the Riddle family, his decision was final.
At the end of the day, Nicole and Sean were the only ones called into the study to discuss this matter, indicating that he would not listen to be persuaded to listen to anyone else. Thus, everyone would have no choice but to accept his pick.
âWell, it is decided, then,â Benjamin concluded. âIf thereâs nothing else, you may all go home now.â
âOkay,â everyone responded.
But after everyone had left, Karen pulled Preston aside.
âMom, is everything okay?â Preston asked.
Feigning anger and dismay, Karen chided, âYouâve been busy all day. Am I not allowed to talk to you for a while when I see you?â
âWell, you sure can,â Preston agreed and stayed back.
After making sure there was nobody else left in the room, Preston asked, âWhatâs going on, Mom?â
Preston knew Karen would not have made him stick around if she had nothing important to say. Though she had told him that all she wanted was a chat, it was just an excuse. In truth, Karen had been talking to him ever since dinner had ended.
Karen then glanced over at the direction of the stairs, and once she was certain that there was nobody within earshot of what she was about to say, she whispered, âYour grandfather just announced that Sean will inherit the fortunes of the Riddle family. Why didnât you say anything?â
âI have no problem with that. What do you want me to say?â Preston replied, his brows raised in puzzlement.
âOh my gosh.â Karen sighed, looking at Preston in frustration. âYou donât get it, do you? The Riddle family has a ton of assets. Why is Sean the only one who gets to receive all of them?â
Hearing that, Preston frowned. âDuh? It has always been this way. There will only ever be one heir, and thatâs not going to change.â
Even before this, there was only one heir. The only difference was that every branch of the family used to be united as one. However, all of that changed when Nicole proposed the separation of families, allowing Daniel, Damien, Dillion, and Dexter to manage their own individual companies which were once a part of the greater Riddle Corporation. As of now, Benjamin was the only person with ownership over the family manor.
âI mean, why not? You are one of his grandchildren,â Karen argued.
A serious look crossed Preston at an instant, and he warned, âMom, please donât say things like that in the future. My ambitions lie elsewhere. Besides, Sean can do a better job than me.â
âGosh, youâre really trying to piss me off, arenât you?â Karen nagged, unhappy with what she saw as Prestonâs lack of grit, ambition, and fighting spirit.
âMom, I think lifeâs fine as it is now. Have you forgotten what happened to Snow and Raine? Have you not learned your lesson?â Preston reminded her as his frown became even more prominent.
â1-1.â Karen suddenly choked up, her face turning pale.
âPreston is right,â Dillionâs voice resounded.
Taken aback, Karen asked, âWhy did you come down here?â
She looked up at the banister near the flight of stairs, anxious and scared.
