Chapter 2918
My Wife is a Hacker
Thinking about Ellarâs drunken state, Patricia couldnât shake off a feeling of sadness. Yet, she knew there was nothing she could do but endure.
âCaptain, thereâs some movement,â Glenn alerted her. Patricia, lost in thought, didnât respond at first.
âCaptain?â Glenn raised his voice.
âWhat is it?â Patricia snapped back to reality.
âThereâs some activity outside,â he pointed out.
Patricia stood up, her demeanor turning cooler. âIâll check it out.â
She opened the hospital room door and saw only a nurse passing by with a cart.
Relieved, she closed the door and returned, muttering, âFalse alarm.â
Sitting back down, Patricia bit her lip, annoyed at herself for getting distracted.
She tried to force herself to stop thinking about Ellar, but the more she tried, the clearer his image became in her mind.
âI need a break,â Patricia said, feeling increasingly restless. She got up and left the room.
Walking down the corridor, seeing other team members hidden around, helped Patricia regain her composure.
âWe have a mission,â she reminded herself. âWe canât afford any mistakes. We have to catch whoever comes after us.â Meanwhile, Max arrived at Jaredâs office and knocked.
After hearing a response from inside, Max entered and reported, âMr. Johnston, itâs quiet at the hospital. Do you think theyâll make a move tonight?â
âLet Patricia handle it. She knows what to do,â Jared replied confidently.
âYes,â Max agreed, then added, âAs for the lawyers, itâs almost certain that Damien is negotiating with them.
Otherwise, why would he disclose information to them?â
âNegotiating?â Jaredâs eyes narrowed slightly, pondering what Damien could possibly offer. It was just like Damien to try and strike a deal, but what could he offer now that he was caught?
Max looked puzzled too. âThatâs what it seems, but we havenât figured out his angle yet.â
âAfter all, heâs been caught. Escape is impossible. What could he possibly do to get out of this? The evidence against him is solid,â Max thought.
âKeep a close eye on them; they might make a move,â Jared said firmly.
Since they were so invested, they wouldnât give up easily.
âUnderstood,â Max responded respectfully.
It seemed clear that those people would act, though their exact intentions were still unknown. As soon as they made a move, Jaredâs side would be aware.
The night had deepened.
People had returned home and were resting.
The hospital had quieted down, with lights off in most wards.
âCaptain, thereâs been no activity all day. Do you think theyâll come tonight?â
Glenn whispered.
âWhether they come or not, we need to stay alert,â Patricia replied calmly.
She knew Scorpio wouldnât back down. If not today, then tomorrow, or the day after. They were bound to show up.
Glenn didnât speak again, focusing on the sounds outside.
Quiet footsteps echoed in the still corridor, growing closer.
âCaptain, could it be them?â Glenn alerted.
Patricia listened intently, her pupils constricting slightly. Her hands clenched into fists, ready for action.
âIf itâs them, they wonât leave here easily,â she thought.
The door slowly opened, revealing figures in the light from the window. Patricia and Glenn held their breath, trying not to make any noise. They knew one wrong move could scare off the intruders.
A person in black approached the bedside, scanning the room silently. After a brief signal exchange with a partner, one of them pulled out a dagger, glinting in the dim light.
