Chapter 2947
My Wife is a Hacker
Lawrenceâs eyes held a touch of genuine sorrow as he said,â Iâm sorry. I didnât mean to hurt you, but I had things I needed to do.â Nicoleâs response was steady and calm, âItâs okay, thatâs all behind us now.â
Their relationship had changed; it couldnât return to what it used to be.
Shifting the topic, Lawrence asked, âCan I go see Nolan and Lana?â He didnât want to dwell on the past anymore.
He knew what Nicoleâs words implied â their friendship was over. He might not have another chance to see Nolan and Lana, so he hoped to see them one last time.
Nicole considered this for a moment before answering, âYou can see them at their school gate after school. But donât bother them. And remember, this is the last time.â
Lawrence felt a wave of sadness, realizing Nicole was setting a final boundary.
After a brief pause, he accepted, âOkay.â
Knowing there was nothing more to discuss, Lawrence stood up, âI guess I should get going.â
âAlright,â Nicole gave a light nod.
As Lawrence neared the door, he stopped and turned back,â
If itâs ever possible, would you think about going back to Crescent Island?â
He longed for the carefree days they had there, wishing they could have stayed in those moments forever.
âI donât see that happening again. Maybe that place was never really for me,â
Nicole replied, her gaze meeting Lawrenceâs.
He had saved her, offering her a haven at Crescent Island, but it was all just a strategy for her Fire Crest. Looking back, it all felt kind of silly.
She had believed they were friends, but he had never truly seen her in that way.
A hint of sadness flashed in Lawrenceâs eyes. He gave a nod, opened the door, and stepped out.
No sooner had Lawrence left than Lulu rushed in, her face etched with worry.
âNicole, are you okay?â
âIâm fine,â Nicole responded, shaking her head dismissively. He was just testing her, and that was all.
Lulu settled next to Nicole, her curiosity apparent. âWhat did he say? He didnât look mad, but there was something off about him.â
Nicole knew Lawrence was here about the Water Crest. âIs he blaming Nicole?â Lulu wondered.
âHe was just digging up old memories and testing my reaction,â Nicole said nonchalantly with a shrug.
âReally? Just that?â Lulu seemed surprised.
âYeah,â Nicole nodded. Thatâs all that was left between her and Lawrence now.
But Lawrence didnât look like he wanted to let go of their friendship. âIs that why heâs here, to see where I stand?â Nicole pondered.
Nicoleâs eyes narrowed, a hint of suspicion flickering through them. âIs he up to something new?â Lulu let out a sigh, âThis must be hard for you. How did you two even meet?â
Nicoleâs expression shifted slightly, remembering how Lawrence had once saved her.
âForget about it. Just be careful around him,â Lulu advised, her concern evident.
âSure.â Nicole nodded, thinking to herself, âHe came, he left, and even though he didnât say much, it felt like everything was saidâ¦â The sun dipped below the horizon, marking the dayâs end.
After work, Jared arrived to pick up Nicole.
âLetâs get the kids,â Nicole suggested as she hopped into the car. âIâve already spoken to Tia.â
Jared glanced at Nicole, âIs Lawrence going too?â
Catching Jaredâs knowing look, Nicole confirmed, âI told him he can watch from a distance. He wonât bother the kids, and itâs just for today.
