Chapter 119
The CEO's Amazing Ex-Wife Is Back!
â
Chapter 119 Chapter 119 Walking back to his desk, Kris picked up his phone, which heâd nearly forgotten in his earlier haste to see Thalassa.
âWho are you calling?â Alden asked as Kris began tapping tapidly on it.
+25 BONUS Kris didnât respond, dialing a number and bringing the phone to his ear. He drummed his fingers impatiently on the desk as he waited for Smoke to answer.
When the man finally picked up, Kris hissed, âI told you I wanted the report on Clark Morgan immediately, but itâs been five days already.â
Smoke cleared his throat on the other end. âForgive me, Mt Miller, but my contacts overseas had a hard time searching for information on Morgan.â
Krisâs nostrils flated. âSo you donât have anything yet?â
âNo,â Smoke clarified. âI do have something. Iâm just trying to explain thatââ
âWhat are you waiting for, then? For me to roll out the red carpet before you come and give me the information?â
âNo, sir. Iâm just on my way to your office now. Iâll be there in a few minutes.â
âMake it quick,â Kris said, then hung up.
Tossing his phone onto the desk, he began pacing the length of the office. The room was silent, the air thick with tension as Kris kept pacing, glancing at his watch every few seconds.
Finally, there was a knock on the door, and Millie went to open it. Smoke walked in, holding a file, his eyes scanning the serious faces in the room.
âWhat did you find, Smoke?â Kris questioned, waving him over to start speaking.
Smoke glanced at the visitorâs chair as if considering sitting down, but noticing that everyone else was standing, he decided against it and began his report.
âI discovered that Clark Morgan has been married twice over the past three years while he was in Ireland.â Seconds ticked by until Kris broke the silence, his voice incredulous. âIs that it? Thatâs all youâve discovered?â Though he was surprised to learn Clark had been married twice, it wasnât incriminating, so it felt useless to him. âNo, thatâs not all,â Smoke quickly added. âMy contacts also found some information about another woman he was involved with before these marriages. At first, it all seems innocent enough, but then you start to notice a pattern.â
âWhat pattern?â Alden asked, leaning forward.
âHe met each of these women in support groups. All of them were slightly older than him, all had been admitted to psychiatric hospitals at some point in their lives and were undergoing therapy, all of them seemed to have no family ties, all of them were millionaires, and all of them are dead as we speak.â
Aldenâs eyes widened. âDead? How did they die?â
âSuicide,â Smoke replied. âThey all committed suicide, and as their spouse, Clark Morgan inherited everything.â âBut he wasnât in a relationship with the other woman,â Alden pointed out.
âYes,â Smoke nodded. âBut while they were living together, she had a severe episode of psychosis. Before being 1/3 Chapter 119 +25 BONUS readmitted to the psychiatric hospital, she gave Clark Morgan power of attorney over her assets. She committed suicide in the hospital, and it turned out she had already made a will leaving everything to him.â
âSo he wasnât satisfied with the millions he got from those women,â Alden noted grimly.
âThatâs why heâs now targeting a billionaire,â Millie concluded.
âI knew it. I fucking knew he couldnât be trusted,â Kris muttered, unsure whether to laugh at being proven right or panic at the thought of such a person being close to Thalassa.
He looked at Alden. âDo you still think that bastard wasnât behind the sabotage against Thalassa?â
Alden didnât respond, only shaking his head grimly.
âYou should know that he hasnât committed any crime that could get him arrested, at least not yet,â Smoke mused hesitantly.
âBullshit!â Kris sneered. âThree women connected to him, and they all committed suicide. Are you going to tell me thatâs all random and coincidental?â
He didnât wait for an answer, having already drawn his own conclusions. âSmoke, I want your contacts to keep digging into this.
They need to search for even the smallest inconsistency.â
âThatâs going to cost,â Smoke warned.
âMoney isnât an issue. Just do as Iâve asked,â Kris scoffed. In the meantime, I want you to have someone discreetly monitor Morganâs every move. Also, find a model named Carmen who used to work for Thalassa. Is that clear?â
âYes, Mr. Miller. On it,â Smoke confirmed. âEverything Iâve just reported is in this file.â
Kris reached out, and Smoke handed him the file before leaving the room.
âSo, what are you going to do?â Alden asked calmly as he wrapped his arm around Millie who looked shaken by everything sheâd heard.
Kris grittwd his teeth. âI have to get Thalassa away from that bastard.â
Carmen stared at the private jet in front of her, her heart heavy with the decision she was about to make.
Just then, her phone rang. Glancing at the screen, she sighed. It was a private number that couldnât be traced, but she knew who it was.
âHello.â
âAre you already at the airport?â the man on the other end asked.
âYes. But I feel really guilty. Thalassa didnât deserve what I did to her.â
âDonât be stupid, you didnât do it for free,â the man scoffed âBut...â
âJust shut up. Youâre going to be a good girl and disappear for a few years if you have to. The million dollars I gave you isnât a small deal.â
âYears?â Carmenâs eyes widened. âBut...but my mother is in Baltimore. I canât just leave her for that long.â âItâs exactly because of your mother that youâre going to disappear,â the man hissed. âYou donât want anything 2/3 +25 BONUS Chapter 119 happening to her, do you?â
Carmen shivered. âOf course not.â
âGood girl. You know what? Iâm going to increase that one million to two million dollars. And Iâll make sure your mother is taken care of. Sounds good? Just keep this in mind: do not contact her in any way for at least a year. Is that clear?â
A tear streamed down Carmenâs face as she nodded. âYes.â
âGood girl.â
Hanging up the phone on his end, a shirtless Clark couldnât help but let a satisfied smile stretch across his lips. So far, everything was going exactly as planned.
He laughed. Heâd initially thought it would be difficult, but it wasnât. He had been the one behind the attack on Thalassa outside the restaurant, but because of her hatred for Linda Miller, he hadnât even needed to do anything to make her believe it was Linda who sent the goon, while he managed to look like some kind of hero.
He glanced at the scar on his side from the cut heâd suffered during the attack. Heâd purposely told the goon to cut him with the knife. The scar was a small price to pay, but it had made Thalassa trust him even more.
And now, she hated Kris even more because of him, just as he had planned. There was no way she would forgive Kris, and with Carmen in hiding, there would be no one to prove Krisâs innocence.
Clark smirked. âShe chose you back then, Miller. But not this time.â
H.Dally 1. Dally Author Damn. 5 chapters at once. Iâm so proud of myself but also exhausted, lol. Were you able to correctly guess who was behind the sabotage initially when Thalassa and Luisa saw the destroyed dresses, and also who was behind the attack outside the restaura 126
