Chapter 123
The CEO's Amazing Ex-Wife Is Back!
Chapter 123 Clark stiffened, disliking how Thalassaâs gaze remained pointed and questioning. He let out a small chuckle.â Didnât I? I think I did.â
âNo, you didnât, Clark,â she calmly stated, shaking her head, still waiting for an answer.
Clark swallowed. âUh, the last woman I was with... she was called Meghan. I never married her, though, because after the first two experiences, I didnât want to be attached to anyone else. But we were together, and I thought she had gotten better until she had a bad relapse and had to be sent back to the mental hospital. She committed suicide in there.â
He let out a sorrowful sigh. âI guess I didnât tell you because remembering this has become too painful for me.â
âAnd what about the inheritance you got from all of them? You didnât tell me about that either,â Thalassa continued.
Clark subtly gritted his teeth, wondering why she wasnât letting it go. âI... I didnât think it was important. Yes, they were wellâtoâ
do, but almost everyone in the foundation I joined was wealthy in some way. When they died, I didnât want to receive anything, but the lawyers told me that since I was the last surviving relative, if I refused, their fortune would be taken by the government.
Thatâs why I agreed.â
âBut Meghan wasnât your wife, so how did you receive her property after she died?â Thalassa questioned.
Clark licked his lips. âShe left everything to me in her will. I donât know why... For some reason, she really trusted me. But I guess she did it because I was the only loved one she had left.â
Pursing his lips sadly, he sank back into the couch. âWhy are you asking me these questions, Lassa? Do you think I was with them for their money?â
âI never said that, Clark,â Thalassa pointed out.
âYes, but I know thatâs what Kris was trying to imply. I only accepted the inheritance because it was their wish for me to have everything, and I couldnât just let the government take it. Since then, most of the money has been going into charity and supporting the needy, mostly in Africa. I can get you all the documents to prove it if you want.â
Thalassa continued staring at him for a few seconds before shaking her head. âNo, itâs fine. Iâm sorry. I shouldnât be asking you all these questions because itâs not my place. All Iâm doing is reminding you of your grief. Once again, Iâm sorry for all your losses.â
It took everything in Clark to hold back a sigh of relief as he flashed a smile. âThank you.â
A few days later, Thalassa and Luisa were swimming in their backyard pool. The water swooshed, splashed, and splattered as the two women glided and thrashed through it, racing to one end before rushing back to the starting point.
âI won! I won! I won!â Luisa rejoiced as she pulled up to get some air.
âUh, sorry to burst your bubble, Luisa, but Thalassa touched my leg first,â Millicent retorted. She wasnât swimming but was just sitting on the edge of the pool, acting as the judge for their races.
Luisa folded her arms across her chest, pouting like a petulant child. âYouâre cheating. I won.â
Both Thalassa and Luisa rolled their eyes before the three of them burst out laughing.
âWho cares about the winner? This is so exhilarating. I cant believe I havenât swum in such a long time,â Lulsa Chapter 123 sighed blissfully before sinking into the water again and sloshing around a bit.
+25 BONUS When she resurfaced, she addressed Millie. âMillie, are you really sure you donât want to get into the pool? Itâs so refreshing.
Come on.â
When they said they wanted to swim, Millie had strongly refused, claiming she had a phobia of the water, even though Luisa clearly remembered how much sheâd loved swimming years ago. What was even more puzzling was that she was wearing one of her long straight dresses, which covered her whole back and belly and was definitely not appropriate for poolside attire. 1 âNo, thanks. Iâm fine right here,â Millie declined with a smile.
âLuisa, she already told you she has a water phobia,â Thalassa reminded her chastisingly.
âOkay, fine. I wonât insist,â Luisa finally gave up.
Just then, a phone chimed with a notification.
âThatâs mine. Please check it for me,â Thalassa requested.
It was on the lounging chair behind Millie, so she picked it up and looked at the screen. She tensed when she saw that it was a text from Clark.
âItâs from Clark,â she said stiffly.
âWhat does it say?â
Millie read it out. âHope I will see you tonight... beautiful.
âAy, he calls you beautiful now?â Luisa gushed excitedly. âThe guy is head over heels!â
âShould I give it to you so you can reply?â Millie asked.
âNo,â Thalassa shook her head. âIâll reply later.â
Nodding, Millie placed the phone back on the lounge chair, but she felt troubled. Tentatively, she asked, âSo you and Clark...
youâre serious now? Are you dating him?â
