Chapter 24
The CEO's Amazing Ex-Wife Is Back!
Chapter 24 It had been three years, and yet when Kris grabbed her by the arm, Thalassa felt the same current as before. It imitated her because she wanted nothing to do with it.
1 donât appreciate being touched without my permission, so let go of me, Mr. Miller. And what did you call me?â she said calmly.
Kris narrowed his eyes at her. Heâd felt her tense up when he called her Thalassa, but now he wasnât so sure, hearing the nonchalance in her voice. He wished he could see the expression on her face, but the d**n mask she was wearing made that impossible.
Reluctantly, he let go of her arm. 1 donât like how you spoke to my mother.â
âAnd how did I speak to her?â she asked.
âYou were rude,â he pointed out.
Thalassa gritted her teeth. He knew the kind of woman his mother was and yet still defended her.
âWell, good thing Iâm not here to cater to what you like or donât like,â she stated. âBesides, I wasnât rude to her. I merely told her what I would tell anyone who wants a meeting with me. She needs to set up an appointment. Why do you expect me to give her special treatment?â
âYou sent an invitation that was personally addressed to us.â
âSo you think that makes you guys special?â She chuckled in a way that he found familiar. 1 sent that invitation because I thought she was one of the biggest players in the fashion industry.â
âShe is,â Kris gritted out.
âIs she?â Thalassa twisted her lips mockingly. âGood for her then, but she will still need to set up an appointment if she wants a meeting with me.â
âT... Iâve been looking all over for you,â a woman said as she approached. âAre you busy?
The green gown she was wearing was just as beautiful, but her mask wasnât as big as the masked womanâs.
âNo. The gentleman and I are finished with our conversation.â
With that, they walked away, leaving Kris staring after them, his eyes still narrowed. Sighing, he walked back to where his family was.
âWhat did she say? Did she agree to meet me?â his mother asked.
âShe still insists that we book an appointment,â Kris answered.
âHow rude can she be? his aunt said. âDoesnât she know who we are?â
âShe thinks so highly of herself just because her company is at the top now. We shall see,â his mother gritted out.
Kris grimaced. Why wasnât anyone else talking about the similarities between this woman and Thalassa? Or was he the only one who could see it?
+25 BONUS Chapter 24 For the rest of the party, he couldnât take his eyes off her, following her everywhere she walked, but she never looked back at him even once.
He waited. Waited for her to take off her mask and reveal her face, but that never happened.
Later, after the party had ended, Thalassa stepped out of the shower into her bedroom as she toweled off her body.
A knock sounded on the door, and Luisa entered when Thalassa told her to come in.
âHow are you feeling?â Luisa asked as she dropped onto the bed.
âI feel fantastic. Tonight couldnât have gone better,â Thalassa replied.
Luisa stared at her, unconvinced. She knew Thalassa was only putting up a nonchalant front.
âLassa, are you sure?â
Thalassa was about to insist but let out a sigh. Her best friend knew her too well. Luisa was the only one who could read her like an open book.
âNo, Iâm not fine, Luisa. I can never be truly fine until my mission for returning has been completed,â she admitted.
Today was the first time in three years that sheâd had in front of her the people whoâd betrayed and destroyed her life in the worst way possible. It had stirred so many emotions inside her: anger, resentment, rage.
Only God knows how sheâd been able to maintain her composure.
âWhat about Kris? How did you feel... seeing him and Karen together?â Luisa asked cautiously.
Thal***aâs eyes darkened. âWhat are you trying to ask me, Luisa? Whether I felt jealous seeing them together?â
Dropping the bathrobe she was wearing, she picked up her nightwear from the bed and slipped it on before turning back to Luisa.
ran âDo you really think I still feel anything for a man who had a hand in my suffering? A man who didnât give a d**n when I needed him the most?â
âOkay, Iâm sorry. No need to get so defensive,â Luisa said, raising her arms in surrender.
Thalassa sighed, picking up her towel to dry her hair some more.
Yes, seeing Kris kiss Karen so lovingly had upset her, but not because she was jealous. She was upset because none of them had any right to be happy after all they put her through, and she was going to make sure of that.
âI canât believe nobody recognized you,â Luisa quickly changed the subject.
Kris called me by my name,â Thalassa revealed.
Luisaâs eyes widened. âHe already knows itâs you?â
Chapter 24 425 âHe only suspects.
âBut I donât get it, Lassa, Luisa frowned. âYes, itâs Halloween, so you got away with wearing the mask tonight, but what happens after Halloween passes? Are you going to keep wearing the mask until you complete your mission?â
âOf course not,â Thalassa smirked. âIâm going to reveal myself to them soon, but before that, I want to play with them a bit. Itâs fun watching them trip all over themselves trying to figure out who I am.â
When the Millers returned to their mansion, everyone retired to their rooms since it was already late.
â1 really thought she was going to show her face at the end of the party,â Karen said when she and Kris entered their bedroom Kns didnât reply as usual, but Karen was happy just talking. âI wonder why she didnât reveal her face. Perhaps she has a hideous scar that she doesnât want anyone to see.â
She chuckled, receiving only a grunt from Kris in return. Suddenly, Karen held his hand and pulled him closer. She was just about to kiss him when he pushed her back abruptly.
âWhat are you doing?â Kris hissed.
âWhat am I doing? Kissing my husband, of course,â Karen said in a low voice meant to be seductive. When she attempted to kiss him again, Kris stepped away from her.
âStop it. Weâre not in public.â
Karen felt stung kissed me and held me at the gala, I at the rejection, her face falling. âBut after how you thought...â
âI only did that because I promised to act like weâre a happy couple in public. So donât get confused,â Kris said.
Meanwhile, he felt guilty because heâd kissed her to see whether the masked woman would react.
Karen was pained, tears springing to her eyes. It had been three years of living together, and yet Kris still treated her like she was his sister.
Heâd never touched her. Not even once.
After using her pregnancy to trap him, she thought that she was finally going to be happy by his side, but how wrong she had been.
âWhy do you treat me like this, Kris? Arenât I attractive enough for you?â
Seeing the tears in her eyes, Kris felt irritated, not ready to deal with her tears.
âCut it out, Karen. You knew from the very start that I didnât feel anything for you. The only reason why I decided to marry you was because of our daughter. Because you threatened to abort her if I didnât!â
