3/3 Chapter 40 +25 BONUS Chapter 40 Thalassa had given Kris that reply out of impulse, but once at left her mouth, she wasnât willing to take it back. Sheâd wanted to hurt him, and judging from the forlorn lock in his eyes, sheâd achieved just that.
Kris felt like a knife had been shoved into his chest as he finally stopped pinning her to the wall and stepped back.
âI see,â he said slowly, the pain weaving through every syllable and his voice. âIf you knew the baby wasnât mine, then why did you try to use it to stop me from divorcing you?â
He shook his head slowly, âWhat sort of woman are you? You wanted to deceive me into taking care of another manâs child. And just yesterday, you tried to guilt me about kicking you out of my life and not caring what happened to you.â
Thalassa ensured that her expression was stoic. âNow thatâve said what you want to hear, can you leave my office?â
âWho was the father?â Kris questioned instead of doing as sheâd said. âWas it Zeke Mathews? How long were you two lovers before we divorced?â
âThatâs none of your business,â Thalassa managed to say despite the ache in her chest. âAnd you have some audacity judging me when you were also having a relationship with my supposed best friend all along. She announced that she was pregnant only a month after we divorced, and the two of you got married afterward.â
His nostrils flared âThatâs not how things happened between Karen and me. We werenât âSave your breath, because I donât care, Kris. The two of you deserve each other, anyway.â
Krisâs eyes blazed as they bored into hers. âYouâve been with Zeke longer than you were with me. Do you love him that much?â
Thalassa rolled her eyes. âWhy? Donât tell me youâre jealous because he was man enough to hold me down for so long, unlike you.â
Thalassa braced herself for his hurtful words as usual, but to her shock, nothing came. Instead, she saw anger and hurt flash in his eyes before he turned and stormed out of her office.
A few seconds later, Luisa hurried inside. âKris looked very upset when leaving. Did he insult you ou again?â
Feeling exhausted, Thalassa walked to her desk and sank into her swivel chair. âNo. He didnât insult me.â
Luisa moved forward to stand beside her. âThen why did he look so upset? What did you guys talk about?â
âHe came here because he made some investigations and found out I was telling the truth about being pregnant and losing the baby.â
âSo, he now knows that the baby was his?â
Thalassa smiled bitterly. âNo. I told him it wasnât his.â
Luisaâs eyes widened with shock and confusion. âWhat? Why would you do something like that? I thought the whole point was making him see how wrong he was about you?â
âI donât care about that anymore. He can continue to think whatever he wants of me. That wonât stop me from seeking the justice I came back for.â
Luisa sighed. She could sense so much pain between Thalassa and Kris, but it seemed neither of them was willing to show it.
Instead, theyâd both resorted to playing the game of who could hurt each other more.
Chapter 40 +25 BONUS âWhat happened?â Alden questioned the moment Kris stepped out of Thalassaâs office looking upset. Kris didnât reply as he continued his way towards the elevator, then outside, then into the car, with Alden following.
âLook, I took my time to accompany you here, so I do not appreciate being ignored,â Alden finally snapped.
âThe baby wasnât mine,â Kris deadpanned.
âWhat? How did you âShe finally had the guts to admit it to my face,â Kris said. It was someone elseâs child she was carrying.â
âOh,â Alden said in disappointment.
Heâd really been rooting for the fact that Thalassa was a decent woman and everything that happened three years ago was a misunderstanding.
But maybe heâd been wrong about her.
Kris, on the other hand, was feeling a brutal ache in his chest. Heâd known that there was a possibility that the child wasnât his, so why did it hurt now that Thalassa had admitted it to his face?
It wasnât supposed to hurt this much. No. It wasnât supposed to hurt at all, so why the hell was he feeling this way? 1
